Reference News Network reported on December 27 that according to the US Consumer News and Business Channel website, on December 18, Chinese electric vehicle company Weilai released a new medium-sized intelligent electric coupe ET5 and customized augmented reality (AR) glasses to reduce the time drivers spend staring at the car display.
Augmented reality technology is a technology that superimposes digital images onto the real world. For cars, this technology allows drivers to keep their eyes glued to the road without having to look down at the dashboard.
Nio said it cooperated with China's augmented reality technology start-up Nreal to develop and produce augmented reality glasses for its new sedan ET5.
It is reported that the electric vehicle is scheduled to start delivery in September 2022, and the starting price of the new car including the battery version is 328,000 yuan before the subsidy. The company said augmented reality glasses are not included in this price and must be purchased separately.

The ET5 is the second electric sedan to be brought to market by NIO. In January this year, the company launched the first medium- and large-sized smart electric flagship sedan ET7, which started at 448,000 yuan before subsidies and has not yet begun to deliver.
On December 18 this year, Li Bin, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, announced at the company's annual NIO Day 2021 conference that the delivery of ET7 is scheduled to begin on March 28, 2022.
Cars sold by Tesla, BYD, Xiaopeng and other Chinese electric car companies are popular with locals in China, the report said.
Weilai also said that the company's car deliveries in November this year have rebounded from the low of 3667 vehicles in October, with a total of 80,940 vehicles delivered in the first 11 months of this year. According to data from the China Passenger Car Market Information Association, as of November this year, NIO's ES6 and EC6 models were among the top 10 new energy SUVs sold in China.
Li Bin said NIO plans to promote its products and services to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark next year. He also said that by 2025, the company aims to reach users in more than 25 countries and regions.
NIO opened a flagship store in Oslo, Norway, this year and began exporting cars to the electric-car-enabled country, while rivals Xiaopeng Motors and BYD are already exporting cars to Norway.
In early November, Li Bin said on an earnings call that in addition to Norway, the company plans to enter five other European countries next year.
NIO Capital, a subsidiary of NIO, is an investor in Tairuo Technology. According to a press release, the ET5 sedan's custom glasses can provide the visual experience equivalent of a 201-inch large screen at 6 meters.
Nio also announced at the press conference that it has jointly developed virtual reality (VR) glasses with NOLO, another Chinese start-up supported by NIO Capital. At present, product pricing and other details have not been disclosed. (Compile/Paint)
