Such a beautiful island scenery has attracted countless people to come here for sightseeing, they enjoy themselves in this romantic place, some swim, some fly kites, some play volleyball, some pull mountain nets, and some choose to dive, sail, sail, sail yacht, drive a motorboat, take a banana boat, etc., everywhere is full of joy, peace and leisurely scenes.
However, in the enchanting scenery of this beautiful island, there is a solemn martyrs' monument with the inscription "Dongshan Battle Monument" impressively, which commemorates the last battle of Chiang Kai-shek on the mainland in 1953 after the founding of New China.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chiang Kai-shek clique fled to the isolated island of Taiwan, unwilling to accept its own defeat, and with the remnants of the defeated soldiers, it has always dreamed of returning to the "wanton years" of "eating and drinking spicy" in the past, so it was clamoring to fight back, so it chose Dongshan Island, the second largest island in Fujian, as a springboard.
Indeed, Dongshan Island is located on the southeast coast, under the jurisdiction of Zhangzhou, Fujian, is the throat of maritime traffic between Fujian and Guangdong, and is also a barrier along the coast of southern Fujian, and has been a place of contention for soldiers since ancient times: Qi Jiguang, a famous general of the Ming Dynasty, built the ancient city of Tongshan to resist the Wokou, Zheng Chenggong trained sailors to recover Taiwan at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and Shi Lang sent troops to unify Taiwan, all of which established bases on Dongshan Island. What's more, this place name is also very auspicious, and there is an idiom called comeback, which is very suitable for realizing their so-called ideals.
On the night of July 15, 1953, a second-class army admiral, two lieutenant generals deputy commander-in-chief, vanguard, two major generals, navy and air force command, led 2 warships, 6 landing craft, 5 gunboats, 21 amphibious tanks a total of 13,000 people, tank landing ships opened the way, medium landing ships followed, frigates pressed the front, with the cooperation of sea and air forces and more than a dozen transport airborne paratroopers, a large-scale invasion of Dongshan Island.
Immediately, this large fleet quietly arrived near Dongshan Island, and the officers and men boarded the small boat "hula", and then divided into three ways and rushed to grab the beach and land on the island. At the same time, more than 20 planes flew to the north of the island on time, 480 paratroopers landed from the air, and guns suddenly sounded on Dongshan Island, and the Battle of Dongshan Island began.
Biting dogs don't show their teeth. As soon as they landed on the shore, the officers and men immediately followed the "prescribed action" during the exercise and cut down all the telephone poles on the island in a hurry. The funny thing is that no one cut the wires because there was no such "action" during the exercise. As a result, throughout the campaign, the communication between the defenders of Dongshan Island and the headquarters of the Fujian Military Region was unimpeded.
When the enemy's more than 10,000 men and horses pounced on Dongshan Island with great momentum, there were only 1,000 officers and men of the 80th Regiment of Public Security on the island, and the ratio of the enemy's and our strength was 10:1, and the situation was extremely critical. As soon as the battle began, the commander of the tour led his troops to block the enemy army, held the core position, dragged the enemy army, and waited for the arrival of reinforcements.
More than a thousand local public security troops, facing more than 10,000 enemies armed to the teeth, the commander of the tour regiment was not afraid, and led the team to a strict position to immediately give the enemy a head-on attack. Suddenly, the sound of gunfire and shouts of killing sounded earth-shaking, tearing through the early morning silence of the island. The deployment of the commander of the tour regiment had a noticeable effect, and the top squad placed on the front line of the beachhead delayed the action of the Kuomintang army, so that the enemy did not reach the front until around 8 o'clock.
When the enemy vanguard commander saw the fierce resistance of our army, he did not think at all that our army had already made preparations, so he ordered the sea and air forces to join the battle. As a result, the planes bombed indiscriminately, the ship's guns bombarded wildly, and more than a dozen transport planes taking off from Hsinchu Airport flew in a line above the eight-foot gate, and the heavenly women scattered flowers and dropped batches of paratroopers, which was the first time that the Kuomintang army used paratroopers in the war.
The Eight Foot Gate is the throat of dongshan to the mainland, this place is very important, once occupied by the enemy, even if reinforcements arrive, they can only watch the fire from the other side, sigh bitterly, as for the island defenders, there is no way to go. To this end, the commander of the tour has already deployed a company of sailors here, and ordered that the gate must be guarded no matter what.
In the face of the joint attack of the strong enemy's superior forces on land, sea and air, our heroic defending troops on the island, with the cooperation of the masses and militia on the island, in accordance with the battle plan, fought and retreated, and blocked the enemy army step by step; in the fierce battle, how many touching things happened: When the enemy swarmed, the soldier Yang Xuebei bravely rushed out of the pit to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy until he was killed; Huang Feilong, deputy company commander, resolutely pulled a grenade and pounced on the enemy group and died with the enemy; in addition, there was Zhang Xuedong, a combat hero of the Huang Jiguang style... Nevertheless, the situation was very unfavorable as the fighting continued. After killing and wounding a large number of Nationalist troops, the commander of the tour regiment concentrated the main force on the three core positions of Gongyun Mountain, WangDaShan and Niu calf Mountain (200, 425 and other highlands), and at the same time engaged in a deadly battle with the enemy troops at the front of the position.
The first company of the sailor division guarding the eight-foot gate, with the active cooperation of the militia, fearlessly carried out anti-airborne operations; in the face of the repeated charge of the paratroopers who landed from the planes, they and the "Heavenly Soldiers and Heavenly Generals" competed with each other, from the company commander Wang Dechang to the ordinary militiamen, all holding the conviction of stubbornness, relying on the broken walls of the village built during the anti-Japanese resistance more than 300 years ago, stubbornly resisting, and finally waiting for the vanguard troops of the reinforcements, and fighting the "Heavenly Soldiers and Heavenly Generals" all over the place to find teeth.
It was precisely because of the tenacious struggle of the troops guarding the island that time was won for the reinforcements, at this time, the troops on the island counterattacked in all directions, the enemies who landed on the island fled to the beach, and the counterattack troops approached the beach at the end of the lake, annihilated one of the enemy, and the remnants of the enemy boarded the ship and fled to the sea in a hurry, and then searched for the remnants of the soldiers, and the battle ended at 19:00 on the same day.
