Unlike Yang Chengwu, Yang Dezhi has been in the local area for a long time, serving as the commander of the Grand Military Region, he did not serve as deputy chief of the general staff, and directly succeeded Deng Gong as chief of the general staff in 1980.
At that time, Yang Yong was already in the General Staff as Deputy Chief of the General Staff. Yang Dezhi and Yang Yong are a pair of close comrades-in-arms, and now that they are working together, they are naturally very happy. Yang Dezhi said very modestly: I will first familiarize myself with the situation, and the relevant documents will be sent to Deputy General Yang first.
Yang Dezhi served as chief of the general staff until 1987, which lasted for seven years. He made a record. Yang Dezhi is the longest-serving chief of the general staff after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and no one has surpassed him so far. Yang Dezhi was also the last founding general to serve as chief of the general staff.

Yang Yong was a general who went to Korea after the founding of the People's Republic of China as the last commander of the Volunteer Army, and after successfully completing the combat mission, he returned home with the last batch of volunteers.
Then, Yang Yong served in the Beijing Military Region, the Shenyang Military Region, and the Xinjiang Military Region, from the northeast to the northwest, for the border of the country, and the old Cheng held a heavy position, which was actually the backbone of the country. In 1977, Yang Yong went to Beijing to work, and soon became deputy chief of the general staff.
We know that among the three Yangs, Yang Yong was a general of Liu Deng's army and an old subordinate of Deng's political commissar. He went to the General Staff to assist Deng Gong, chief of the General Staff, in his work, and successively held other important posts. When Yang Yong was preparing to show his talents, he was knocked down by the ruthless disease. Just a few days after New Year's Day in 1983, Yang Yong died of terminal cancer. What a shame. If he hadn't died so early, Yang Yong's later achievements would have been even greater.
