On December 17, when he met the elderly Lin Guowen, he was reading old newspapers in his room, which were carefully arranged by him, which recorded the changes of the times in China, and what touched him the most was the report on the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, because it was closely related to his experience in his youth.
In 1953, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea came to an end, and the volunteers who remained in Korea helped Korea rebuild its homeland after the war. Due to the urgent need for cultural construction of officers and men of the Volunteer Army stationed in Korea, in 1955, Lin Guowen rushed to Korea with the 46th Regiment of the 8th Artillery Division of the Volunteer Army and became a volunteer army cultural instructor to help the volunteer soldiers get rid of their blindness. "To get rid of blindness is to raise the uncultured warrior to a person who knows 2,000 words." Elder Lin Guowen recalled.
When he first entered North Korea, Lin Guowen not only had to help volunteer soldiers get rid of their illiteracy, but also participated in post-war reconstruction work. After the war, North Korea's industrial system was severely damaged and required a lot of steel, so Lin Guowen led North Korean fighters throughout the rural areas of North Korea to collect scrap iron abandoned during the war and help North Korea restore industrial production and construction.
Today, the 88-year-old is still tough and has fallen in love with travel. He excitedly picked up photos of his travels over the years and showed us, "Going out 11 times in recent years, traveling to 30 countries, and enjoying running outside." Lin Guowen told us that today's happy life is not easy to come by, it is forged with the blood and life of the predecessors, so we should cherish the current good life.
