Cao Zhi (曹植), zijian (字子建), Cao Cao's son and Cao Pi's younger brother, ranked third among the brethren. Cao Zhi, along with his father Cao Cao, and his older brother Cao Pi, were known as the Three Caos of Literature by the Wei people during the Three Kingdoms period. Cao Zhi is quick-witted, intelligent since childhood, extremely talented in literature, and the seven-step poem that has been passed down through the ages is his masterpiece.

A hundred years after Cao Cao, Cao Pi succeeded to the throne. During his reign, he often overshadowed his brother's literary talent, making his imperial light undoubtedly inferior by a few points, and it was inevitable that he would be jealous of him. Because of the long-term resentment, they secretly have the heart to eliminate it one by one. On that day, Cao Pi had a sudden idea, so he used Wen Zhiwen to give his brother a problem in front of the wen and military officials in the court, so as to suppress the third brother's grandeur, or take the opportunity to cut it off, in order to clear the shadow in his heart that was often obscured. Taking advantage of the minister's visit, he ordered Cao Zhi to write a poem on the spot within seven steps, otherwise it would be a waste of time, insulting the Cao family's worldly name, and ordering him to be beheaded on the spot. Cao Zhi was indeed talented and crowned in the world, not a mediocre talent wrapped in splendid embroidery, but because of his brother's imperial majesty, he had to restrain himself on weekdays. On that day, when he saw his brother forced to die, the imperial majesty was shrouded in full halls, and under the golden mouth and jade words, he could only bow down and obey the order. Cao Zhi, who was full of emotions for a while, could not help but shed tears, but felt in the midst of sadness and humiliation, and strolled to the hall and recited the famous seven-step poem of ancient and modern times, "Boiling beans and burning beans, beans crying in the kettle." Originally born from the same root, why is it too urgent to fry each other? As soon as this poem came out, the Manchu Dynasty Wenwu was shocked.

This seven-step poem fully demonstrates Cao Zhi's extraordinary wisdom, and is deeply appreciated by the ministers of culture and military affairs present, forcing Cao Pi not to wantonly go against the wishes of the people; the metaphors in the poem are very clever and clever, intentionally or unintentionally affecting Cao Pi's inner flesh and bones; Cao Zhi has obeyed the instructions, and the poems are exquisite, if Cao Pi kills again, it will hurt Deya and easily lose the hearts of the people. Therefore, Cao Zhi saved his life with his supreme talent, and eliminated the doom of dying at the hands of Cao Pi for life. In fact, the seven-step poem was originally as six sentences, and the four sentences that are now circulating in the world are all refined and carved by posterity on the basis of not losing their original meaning, in order to facilitate circulation. The original poem "Boiled beans are held as soup, and wet is used as juice." The beans burned under the kettle, and the beans wept in the kettle. Originally born from the same root, why is it too urgent to fry each other? ”。

Although Cao Zhicai is high, he has no ambition in his life, and since the Seven Steps Poem, although Cao Pi has eliminated the desire to kill Cao Zhi, he still does not reuse it. After Cao Pi, his son Cao Rui came to power, and Cao Zhi made many efforts, but finally failed to win the trust and reuse of the saints, and even died in his later years. Cao Zhi was the first creator of the Wuyan poem in the history of Chinese poetry, and naturally became the founder of the Wuyan poem. Of the more than 90 poems he has circulated, more than 60 of them are five-word poems. His poetry writing completed the transformation from Hanle Fu folk songs to literati poetry, and promoted the creation and development of literati wuyan poems.

Chinese when praising people's profound knowledge, they often like to adopt an idiom of "only high eight buckets, learn rich five cars", of which the allusion of only high eight buckets is derived from Cao Zhi. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the most famous great poet Xie Lingyun, who was arrogant and uninhibited all his life, admired Cao Zhi. He once said a famous saying: "There is only one stone in the world (stone 'yin dan' is the ancient unit of measurement in China, one stone is equal to ten buckets), Cao Zijian has eight buckets, I have one bucket, and I have shared a bucket since ancient times and today." As a result, later generations called those who excelled in learning "eight buckets of talent" or "eight buckets of talent". For example, Li Shangyin of the Tang Dynasty wrote in the poem "Lamentable": "Concubine Mi sat in the Zhitian Pavilion and exhausted the eight doucai of King Chen." " sentence. The King of Chen quoted in the poem is the reason why Cao Zhi was made King of Chen after his death.
