Two traffic violations, a humble driver's license, and a fugitive who has been on the run for 27 years

Two traffic violations thousands of miles away, a seemingly inconspicuous driver's license, have exposed the feet of a fugitive from a murder case who has been on the run for 27 years. The police followed the line, rushed from Hubei to Henan, and then from Henan to Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, and finally arrested him after several turns. So far, the perpetrators of the injury and death case that occurred 27 years ago in a mine in Baoan Town, Daye City, Huangshi, Hubei Province, have all been arrested.

Mine workers were killed late at night

Back in the night of September 22, 1994, in the duty room of the Baoan Town Police Station in the northwest of Daye, a rapid telephone rang. Huang Cai'an, the director of the duty, picked up the microphone and heard an anxious alarm: No, no, no, the chief of the Yuhua Temple Mine Security Section was killed!

The Daye police set up a special investigation squad led by the criminal investigation brigade and with the participation of the security police station and the Jinshandian police station to carry out dragnet investigation, investigation, autopsy, evidence collection, and anti-murder work overnight.

The crime scene was located in the Living Area of the Yuhua Temple Branch of the Wugang Jiaozuo Iron Ore under the jurisdiction of Baoan Town, Daye County (On January 1, 1995, Daye County was officially withdrawn from the county and set up as a city). According to forensic science and technology appraisal: the deceased was stabbed by a sharp weapon before his death, resulting in myocardial bleeding, pulmonary compression and breathing difficulties and other causes of death.

A dealership owner who lives not far from the scene reported that on the night of the crime, he had heard a noise at the entrance of the canteen in the living area of the mine, and when he went out to check, he was dragged into the house by two fellow villagers who ran in front of him. These two people, one is Dong Mou of the Mine Protection Section, and the other is Zhang Mouchuang, an underground artillery worker. Both men were covered in blood and full of alcohol, and when they entered the door, they asked him for money, and then snatched the cash from the front of his bed for several 10 yuan tickets.

At the same time, a miner also reported that at about 12 o'clock on the night of the crime, Zhang Mouchuang ran into the commissary with a blood stain and a color, accompanied by Dong Mou, who had recently worked in the security section. Dong claimed to have cut Zhang on impulse and borrowed 400 yuan from him in the name of treatment.

People from all walks of life gathered information, and after the police studied and judged, they believed that Zhang Mouchuang and Dong Mou were suspected of major crimes.

Drunken impulses trigger homicides

As the investigation deepened, the police found that it was a murder caused by a private grudge.

One night a few days before the crime, Ma Mouqing learned that Zhang Mouchuang had offended his brother-in-law "Xiao Wei", so he took "Xiao Wei" and two young men and beat Zhang Mouchuang, who was sleeping in the dormitory, until he knelt down and begged for forgiveness.

Afterwards, Zhang Mouchuang found a co-worker Dong Mou to try to reconcile. On the day of the crime, Zhang Mouchuang asked Dong mou and others to eat together, and a table of fellow villagers drank and fisted until about 11 p.m. before they left separately. When Dong Mou, who was drunk and hazy, walked to the dormitory building, he met Ma Mouqing, who also drank too much wine and walked around alone. One side tries to make peace on behalf of others, while the other side doesn't buy it. Dong Mou, who was distraught, immediately went to find Zhang Mouchuang, who was even more annoyed after learning about it, believing that he was beaten for no reason, and also offered to drink to ease the relationship, and the other party did not give face at all.

Stimulated by alcohol, Zhang Mouchuang decided to "make a conclusion", so he and Dong Went to find Ma Mouqing with a dagger and a machete respectively. Holding a glimmer of hope for reconciliation, Zhang paid tribute to Ma, who refused, and the contradiction escalated again... Seeing that the horse had no power to fight back, the two discarded their daggers and machetes and fled in the night. After the incident, the police listed Zhang Mouchuang and Dong Mou as online fugitives and pursued them nationwide. In May 1996, a special class of police rushed to Baidaokou Town, Huaxian County, Henan Province, and arrested Dong Mou, while Zhang Mouchuang absconded.

Shi Rui, deputy head of the criminal investigation brigade of the Daye City Public Security Bureau, said that due to the restrictions of the investigation conditions at that time, the police have not found Zhang Mouchuang's hiding place. In the past 27 years, the police have repeatedly gone to Henan and other places to investigate, and have been pursuing and arresting. In September this year, the Daye Municipal Public Security Bureau launched the "Autumn Wind Action", set up a special class to tackle this case, and used police big data and other means to re-sort out and judge the case.

Traffic violations expose the horse's feet

Zhang Mouchuang was born in Puyang, Henan in 1971 and worked in Jiaozuo, Henan and Daye, Hubei. The special police rushed to Zhang Mouchuang's place of origin to investigate and found that the ID card of his brother Zhang Mouling was cancelled in 2014 and is now named Zhang Mouzhen.

The police found that "Zhang Mouling" had a record of handling traffic violations in Qinghai. Why did you use the cancelled ID card to apply for a driver's license, and also deal with vehicle traffic violations in Qinghai? After investigation, the owner of the car is named Hu Moufang, a native of Huzhu County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province. The police soon found out that Hu Moufang's husband, named "Zhang Mouling", came to Huzhu County in the 1990s and later entered Hu Moufang's family as a door-to-door son-in-law. "This person is likely to be Zhang Mouchuang, the murderer who has been on the run for 27 years, and he has used the identity of his younger brother." Daye police immediately rushed to Qinghai Province to carry out their work.

On September 30, the police arrested "Zhang Mouling" in Qilian County, Qinghai Province, who was Zhang Mouchuang, who had been on the run for 27 years. After a surprise trial, Zhang Mouchuang confessed to the crime of intentionally injuring Ma Mouqing to death, and admitted to the fact that he had absconded using the identity of "Zhang Mouling".

After 27 years of escape, Zhang Mouchuang did not have an easy life. After the incident that year, Zhang Mouchuang returned to his hometown in Puyang with his brother Zhang Mouzhen's ID card and embarked on the road of escape, living a life of working and wandering in various places. In April 1999, Zhang Mouchuang met a local girl Hu Moufang while working in a hotel in Xining, Qinghai. In July of that year, the two began to live together. Zhang Mouchuang did not dare to hold a banquet to celebrate, nor did he apply for a marriage license.

With the birth of two children, the pressure of life doubles. In the spring of 2002, Zhang Mouchuang obtained a motor vehicle driving license as "Zhang Mouling" and began to help people drive trucks to run transportation. It was not until Zhang Mouchuang was arrested that his wife and children, who lived with him day and night, knew that he was actually a fugitive from the murder case.
