In 1986, Fu Pingshan went with the troops to the front line of Laoshan Mountain, and he led the team to participate in six combat missions, and the results were also more remarkable. At that time, Fu Pingshan could have returned to his hometown with meritorious service, who knew that in an operation at the end of December 1986, the squad led by Fu Pingshan encountered a Vietnamese woman, and Fu Pingshan could not bear to kill the woman, so he let her go. The woman immediately told the Vietnamese army about the information when she returned, and a large number of Vietnamese troops immediately surrounded the reconnaissance team led by Fu Pingshan.
In order to preserve his living strength, Fu Pingshan demanded that the team members immediately break through, while he stayed behind to block the enemy army, and in the case of being shot in the right leg, he insisted on circling the rainforest with the Vietnamese army for six days and five nights. In the end, all the members of the squad were safely evacuated, but Fu Pingshan was surrounded by Vietnamese troops. The Vietnamese army clamored for Fu Pingshan to surrender, but he vowed to die and chose to fight resolutely to the end. In the end, the Vietnamese army collectively threw grenades at him, for which the national hero died heroically and died in a foreign country, only 29 years old.
In order not to let Fu Pingshan's body fall in Vietnam, the troops spent a lot of money and invited a Vietnamese border citizen to go deep into the rainforest to bring Fu Pingshan's body out. Unfortunately, due to the heat of the weather, the hero's body was highly decayed, and he had no choice but to take his head out and bury it in the Tanggu Martyrs Cemetery in Tianjin, and the troops also awarded him first-class merit. His daughter was only 3 years old at the time of Fu Pingshan's death, and his wife, Yu Yanping, was heartbroken when she heard the news. In order not to let the mother-in-law accept the grief of the white-haired people sending the black-haired people, the wife had to hide the news that Fu Pingshan had died until the death of the mother-in-law. And Yu Yanping has never remarried another person in her lifetime.
