During World War II, the Invading Japanese Army carried out a massacre in Nanjing, killing as many as 300,000 people. As the wartime capital of the Nationalist government, the Japanese army carried out an "aerial massacre" against Chongqing, carrying out a strategic bombing for 6 years and 10 months, known in history as the "Chongqing Bombing". The "Chongqing Bombing" caused more than 32,000 direct casualties and 6,600 indirect casualties. The magnitude of the catastrophe caused by the bombing set a record during World War II and in the entire history of human warfare, causing great damage to the Chinese nation.

"Remember history, never forget the original heart, cherish peace, and oppose war!" More than 30 survivors of the Chongqing bombing and relatives of the victims shouted slogans in front of the Chongqing bombing massacre site, laid wreaths and held a moment of silence for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre and the Chongqing bombing.

Every year on the National Day of Commemoration for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre, survivors and relatives of the victims of the Chongqing Bombing, who also experienced those tragic years, hold activities to mourn the compatriots who died in the War of Resistance.

"Today we are here to mourn the victims of the Nanjing Massacre, as well as our relatives and compatriots who were killed in the Bombing of Chongqing." Su Yuankui, an 88-year-old survivor of the Chongqing bombing, said that the Nature of the Nanjing Massacre and the Chongqing Bombing are the same, and both are historical tragedies caused by The Japanese militarism's aggression against China.

Su Yuankui said that his childhood life was filled with a large number of images of his family rushing into air raid shelters to avoid Japanese bombing, and he remembered the scenes of his relatives and compatriots who were killed in the Bombing of the June Five Tunnel massacre in Chongqing.

In order to seek justice for the victims, in 2004, the survivors of the Chongqing bombing and the relatives of the victims formed the "Chongqing Bombing Victims Civil Claims Group against Japan", with Su Yuankui as the leader of the group. He led survivors and relatives of the victims to more than 40 times to the Japanese court to conduct transnational litigation, demanding that the Japanese government apologize for their crimes and compensation. In December 2019, Japan's Supreme Court rendered a final judgment on the case, which resulted in the defeat of the plaintiffs. Although the judgment acknowledged the historical facts of the Chongqing bombing, it rejected the plaintiff's request for compensation from the Japanese government.

Regarding the final judgment rendered by the Japanese court, Su Yuankui and the members of the plaintiffs' group held that the judgment was unfair. "Life goes on, claims don't stop!" Su Yuankui said: During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the heinous crimes committed by the Japanese army in bombing Chongqing have not yet been liquidated by law, and they want to carry out the claims to the end.

According to Su Yuankui, the Japanese lawyer representing Ichirai Keiichiro and some non-governmental friendship organizations between China and Japan are joining forces to expose the crimes committed by the Japanese army in bombing Chongqing in Japan. The victims of the Chongqing bombing plan to sue japan for compensation in China. "The claim is not to perpetuate hatred, but to hope that the world can remember history, oppose war, cherish peace, and not let history repeat itself." Su Yuankui said. (End)
