Ding Jianwen: "Our regiment is a sharp knife regiment"
Ding Jianwen, who joined the army in the Jiaodong Military Region at the age of 19, is now 93 years old. Looking back on his military career, what makes him most proud is that "our regiment is a sharp knife regiment"! As a squad leader of the 240th Regiment of the 80th Division of the 27th Army of the Ninth Corps of the Volunteer Army, Ding Jianwen fought hard at Changjin Lake, camouflaged a breakthrough, and captured the US helicopter. Today, please ask the old hero to tell us about the unforgettable years of the "Sharp Knife Regiment".
As soon as the Ninth Corps embarked on the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, it encountered a hard and vicious battle. The Battle of Chosin Lake, which was cold and cold, was a harsh test.
Ding Jianwen and his wife watched the video interview content taken by the reporter
Ding Jianwen: More than forty degrees below zero, that person froze, in the snow, I didn't take long to get up and move, some lazy people he was not active, some were frozen to death, that company, that day froze to death 62 people.
With amazing perseverance, the officers and men quietly arrived at the preset battlefield and ambushed in the snow for several days and nights.
Ding Jianwen: A small quilt, a white cotton blanket, was issued when I was near the river, just so that I couldn't find you on the snow covered with a plane. The plane flew much shorter, and there was a saying that said, "Hurry up and put your hat on, don't ask the plane to take off the hat." "The planes are thirty meters high, a group of thirty or forty, in fact, we are very well disguised, it did not find."
On the night of November 27, the Battle of Chosin Lake began, and the US 1st Marine Division and the 7th Infantry Division were beaten blindfolded and gathered at several points in Liutan and Xinxingli. During the day on the 28th, US aircraft came to the rescue, and the battle was extremely fierce.
Ding Jianwen: There are about 40 racks, blowing up this mountain, some people say that the platoon leader was sacrificed, and there is a deputy platoon leader left, so I asked the deputy platoon leader where it went? He said it was up there, and I went up to look for it. He sat in this stone shed, holding the gun on his shoulder and sitting like this, I didn't say anything to him, I went over, he fell, he sacrificed. It's not that there is no way, I have to be responsible. I commanded this class, this platoon, and I rushed up. In the fortifications of the above squad, the machine guns were stable along the line, and the people died in the trenches, that is, in the single bunker, all like that, there was only one squad leader named Sui Chunnuan, who froze off 9 toes, and there was one toe left. This warrior was thin and small, called Sun Fang, and the bayonet stabbed inside, but he couldn't pull it out, and the squad leader pulled out the bayonet for him. The bayonet was thrown on the body, and if you didn't bleed, it wouldn't be able to pull it off, and I commanded this platoon to go up, liberating them both, and restoring the position.
In the second stage of the five battles, the 3rd Battalion of the 240th Regiment penetrated deep into the enemy position, was surrounded by American mechanized troops, and the situation was extremely dangerous, and the soldiers came up with a clever plan to camouflage the breakthrough.
Ding Jianwen: It was the squad leader of the first squad of our company, his name was Zhang Yunzhen. He proposed: We start every day at 6 o'clock in the west, can't we start to leave? The body is all disguised, the branches are inserted, unlike a person like a tree, the head begins to go, the plane stops when it comes, the plane goes over, and when the enemy strengthens the guard, we all go out. The squad leader's opinion was corrected, and the battalion commander instructor adopted his opinion.
In this way, the warriors of the "Sharp Knife Regiment" cleverly disguised and bold, and finally broke through the siege after six days and were commended by Shiji.
In the winter of 1951, Ding Jianwen and his comrades captured three prisoners and a U.S. helicopter.
U.S. military pilots and helicopters
Ding Jianwen: Looking at that mountain from afar, the red light and green light or something, as soon as it was a plane, I went, as soon as the man went, he ran, he arched his head in the snow, one hit his nose, one pinched his leg, and the other did not hang up the color, so he took these three prisoners. It's not the pilot of the helicopter, the pilot of the plane plus a doctor he brought with him, this is not a good thing. We also took pictures and came out in such a posture to hand over the gun. I watched there for 8 days and 8 nights, slept on the plane at night, slept in the helicopter, and the next day I was 200 meters away from this helicopter, there were 6 small planes looking around, and it couldn't be found. Cut the pine tree in disguise, it can't be found. Commander-in-Chief Zhu said that this helicopter was not allowed to be destroyed and that it should be pulled back in its entirety, so he repaired the road and cut down trees to pull the helicopter back to China in its entirety.
Born and died on the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the profound fighting friendship between the Chinese and Dprk peoples has made Ding Jianwen unforgettable to this day.
Ding Jianwen: (North Korea) Ordinary people make tofu for me to eat, that is, the big copper bowl, the tofu in a bowl, with the head to give to the volunteer army to eat, it is the kindness of the people, support the volunteer army to make tofu for you to eat, they also speak Chinese, fight the US army, eat a good fight against the US army.
