The avenue goes far - Wang Zhaomin watercolor system inheritance exhibition

Date: November 30, 2021 - February 27, 2022

Venue: Guangzhou Museum of Art

Reason for recommendation: This exhibition proposes the concept of "Wang Zhaomin's watercolor system" for the first time. The exhibition is divided into two important sections: first of all, in the form of a special museum, it focuses on mr. Wang Zhaomin's more than 30 classic watercolor works of various ages, which is another concentrated and public appearance of Wang Zhaomin's paintings after the 2019 Guangdong Museum of Art's "Great Style - Wang Zhaomin Art Research Exhibition". The demeanor of everyone on the square inch scale makes people shocked by the artist's condensation and integration of different artistic techniques and the advanced artistic creativity that integrates the feelings of life. Another section of the exhibition comprehensively presents the works of Artists such as Su Jiafen, Li Xiaocheng, Huang Zengyan, Long Hu, Li Yanxiang, Xu Yiguan, Fang Xiaolong, Chen Chaosheng, Chen Haining and so on. They were all students of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, some directly under Wang Zhaomin, and some indirectly influenced by Wang Zhaomin's art. Because of the existence of this inheritance relationship, with Wang Zhaomin as the founder and followers including the above painters as the successor force, it constitutes an important existence in the history of modern Chinese art - "Wang Zhaomin Watercolor System". This is an open and dynamic system, which goes beyond the imitation of Mr. Wang Zhaomin's skills and painting style, but under the adherence to "character", the practice of new creations under the guidance of Mr. Wang Zhaomin's artistic concept.

Watercolor painting originated in Europe, with its water color flowing, transparent and brisk, is known as the "light music" in painting, and for a time, compared with Chinese painting, oil painting and other "big paintings", it was mistaken for "small painting". From the middle and late 20th century onwards, with the emergence and solid construction of Wang Zhaomin's unique watercolor art language system, people's prejudice against watercolor painting gradually disintegrated. With "single-handed strength", Wang Zhaomin has realized the leap of Chinese watercolor painting from "small painting" to "large painting".

Wang Zhaomin's watercolor paintings, the brushstrokes are firm and powerful, the colors are pure and bold, the picture structure is stable, it has the color appeal of oil painting and the sense of texture and quantity like sculpture, and it is integrated into the brushwork and poetry of Chinese painting, reflecting the concise and condensed natural charm and vigorous artistic realm. He specializes in figures, landscapes, and even more in still life painting. His flowers, fruits, bottles and pots are full of vitality and vascularity, and there is a solemnity in the strangeness, and his watercolor paintings embody a "great style". Wang Zhaomin excavated the potential expressiveness of watercolor painting that has not been discovered, broke through the limitations of the traditional model of watercolor painting, greatly enriched the artistic language of watercolor painting, opened up a new world for the development of watercolor painting, and formed a kind of "Chinese-style watercolor painting", with outstanding achievements and far-reaching influence.

Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center's super high-profile work "12 People"

When: December 14

Venue: Foshan Grand Theatre - Grand Theatre

Recommended reason: This is a compact, neatly paced legal theme classic, the lines are wonderful and sharp, reflecting the essence of human nature, the story prototype really affected the American judicial system. The play was adapted into the film Twelve Angry Men, the first feature film directed by American director Sidney Lumet in 1957, which won the Golden Bear Award, the highest honor at the Berlin Film Festival that year, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Director and Adapted Screenplay. The story tells of a 16-year-old boy accused of killing his father at midnight, and the evidence in court is so convincing that the defendant will apparently be found guilty and that the boy can be sent to an electric chair if only 12 "jurors" unanimously pass the guilty. The "jurors" who were summoned temporarily were 12 ordinary people who did not know each other and had different lives, interests and experiences. The seemingly final judgment became cautious and complicated by the objections of one of them. Respect for life, reflection on prejudice, responsibility for justice... Gradually changing their rulings.
