The Xi'an Incident on December 12, 1936

In December 1936, the Xi'an Incident and its peaceful settlement launched by the patriotic generals Zhang Xueliang and General Yang Hucheng were a particularly significant event in the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in China. It played a key role in changing the erroneous policy of the National Government in Nanjing that "foreign countries must first be at home" and in promoting the establishment of an anti-Japanese national united front based on the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
