There is no shortage of legendary characters and stories in the Chinese Go circle, and the popular student in front of him is the eight-crowned ke jie, who has attracted countless fans because of his high chess skills, outstanding achievements, lively personality, and bold speech, but for slightly older chess fans, Nie Weiping, Ma Xiaochun, Chang Hao, Gu Li and others seem to be more familiar. And if you talk about Chen Zude, as long as you are a more senior chess fan, you will not know.

Born in Shanghai on February 19, 1944, Chen Zude learned chess at the age of 7 and soon showed amazing talent. Chen Zude began to shine in the 1960s, and in 1961 he was selected for the National Go Training Team (the first national Go team). In 1963 and 1965, he defeated Japan's Masao Sugita and Tatsumi Iwata Kudan respectively under the condition of Jean Ande and Fenxian, becoming the first Chinese chess player to defeat Japan's Kudan. In 1962, 1964 and 1974, Chen Zude won the national individual championship three times (the only national Go tournament at that time), establishing a leading position among the chess players of the same era. In 1982, the Chinese Weiqi Association awarded Chen Zude, Nie Weiping and Wu Songsheng the Nine Dan Certificate, becoming the first batch of nine Dan masters in China.

In 1980, Chen Zude unfortunately suffered from stomach cancer, and during his recovery and recuperation after surgery, he created an autobiographical long-form reportage monograph "Beyond Self", which inspired generations of young people. Chen Zude, who retired from the second line, stepped into the leadership and management positions of the Go industry, successively serving as the vice chairman and chairman of the China Weiqi Association, the director of the Chess Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport, the president of the Chinese Chess Academy, and the administrative level ranked among the departments and bureaus.

Chen Zude's greatest contribution during his tenure as the supreme leader of the Go industry was the establishment of the Weijia League in 1999, which not only solved the problem of rice bowl for about 100 professional chess players, but also solved the problem that some professional chess players did not have much chess to play and it was difficult to maintain their status, which was widely praised. More importantly, Chen Zude's move has opened up a bright road for the professional development of Go.

Although Chen Zude has achieved remarkable results in the Game of Go and performed well in the position of leader of the Go world, he has been quite bumpy in his marriage and family life. He has been married twice, and his original wife is Zheng Minzhi, a Fellow shanghainese and world champion of national table tennis. Chen Zude was 26 years old when they married, and Zheng Minzhi was 25 years old.

When Chen Zude entered the Shanghai Sports Palace at the age of 15 to participate in the Go training, Zheng Minzhi, who was one year younger than him, also trained there, and although the two were not considered green plum bamboo horses, they had known each other for a long time. Zheng Minzhi's high nose, pointed chin, nicknamed "Little Swallow", the pure appearance suddenly made Chen Zude secretly feel nostalgic. But the young Chen Zude did not dare to express his heart, and even hid this beautiful emotion for 11 years. It was not until the age of 26 that Chen Zude plucked up the courage to write his first love letter to Zheng Minzhi, who is already a sports celebrity. On their first date, Zheng Minzhi, who wanted to eat 6 small bean popsicles in one breath, melted Chen Zude's heart. On National Day in 1973, the two held a simple wedding, and a total of 3 tables were held, each table was 30 yuan.

After marriage, both worked and lived in Beijing, Chen Zude was in the Chinese Chess Academy, and Zheng Minzhi embarked on a career path after retiring from the army, and became the deputy director general of the State Sports Commission. After spending a period of harmonious family life, Zheng Minzhi, for various reasons, despite Chen Zude's strong opposition, insisted on returning to Shanghai for development. For this reason, the two often quarreled, and Chen Zude was in a bitter mood. In the end, Zheng Minzhi did not follow Chen Zude and resolutely left Beijing. This made the accumulated contradictions more and more difficult to resolve, coupled with the gathering of less and more, the relationship between the two fell apart, and finally in 1989, it ended with divorce. The two have a son, who is raised by Zheng Minzhi.

Chen Zude has been in a depressed mood after the divorce, and his sister Chen Zufen, a famous reportage writer, believes that his younger brother is not in good health, busy with work, and has poor self-care ability, and most needs a wife who takes good care of him. Finally, under her matchmaking, Chen Zude came together with her nanny Xia Caijuan.

Chen Zude, Xia Caijuan and two sons

Chen Zude's act of marrying his sister's nanny Xia Caijuan surprised people in the Go community, and its shock to Chengdu was probably no less than that of Chang Hao and Xu Fengsu many years later. Chang Hao's wife Zhang Xuan was eight years older than him and had a brief history of marriage, which was not optimistic in the chess world, but the couple loved each other as before after marriage, and the two had a deep affection. After the divorce, Xu Bongsu married a Vietnamese bride who did not speak through the marriage agency.

To this end, Chen Zude revealed to insiders that although he and Xia Caijuan have different levels of education, the two have known each other for a long time at their sister's house and can talk to each other very well.

After marriage, Xia Caijuan, who had been a nanny before and knew how to take care of others, took good care of Chen Zude, which can be said to be considerate, which made him feel very happy. The two had twin sons, but unfortunately neither was able to inherit their father's mantle.

Chen Zude's marriage to Xia Caijuan lasted 18 years. In 2011, Chen Zude suffered from cancer for the second time, and unlike the last time, this time he suffered from pancreatic cancer, the king of cancer, and finally failed to escape the torture of the disease, and died in 2012 at the age of 68. In accordance with Chen Zude's last wishes, Xia Caijuan scattered his ashes on the Huangpu River in Shanghai.
