My Go Life (Life): Chen Zude Chen Zude

Chen Zude

Chen Zude is a chess player I respect very much, he was the first Chinese player to defeat the Japanese nine dan, and he was also the initiator of the "Chinese Stream", and his position in the history of Chinese Go is undeniable.

There are some rumors about our relationship in society, in fact, our relationship is very normal, some things have been exaggerated or distorted, here it is necessary to explain.

Chen Zude and I had a fight, and both sides moved. That was in 1973 when we were on the National Training Team, when we were living in a dormitory. Originally, our relationship was very good, he was of high level, and he was the object of my admiration when I was a teenager, so I always regarded him as "Big Brother". I have a friend named Jiang Tiecheng, once he came to play with me, saw that Chen Zude has a world famous book, he wanted me to borrow it from Chen Zude, and said that he promised to return it. I can't remember exactly what kind of book it was, because at that time I just read chess books and had no interest in other books. So I asked Chen Zude to borrow the book and gave it to Jiang Tiecheng.

After a while, Chen Zude asked me to return the book, which was also a very natural thing. I asked Jiang Tiecheng for it, and he said that the book had been lost, which made me anxious, and at that time, during the "Cultural Revolution", world famous works like this were "banned books", and there was no place to buy them. I was so anxious that I turned my face to Jiang Tiecheng and scolded him, but the book could not be returned. There was no way, I had to tell Chen Zude the actual situation, I said that the book was not borrowed by me, but borrowed by Jiang Tiecheng for the sake of face, and now he has lost the book, there is no way to return you, and I will think of any way to remedy it later. This is really bad for me, and I have repeatedly apologized to him. Jiang Tiecheng is also a friend of Luo Jianwen, and he also knows that I did not say anything indiscriminately.

Play against Chen Zude

Unexpectedly, Chen Zude gave me a "rogue"! Saying that I had used bad means to take possession of his books for myself, he was in a hurry when he was talking, and suddenly he started to beat me. At first, I didn't dare to fight back, but he didn't stop, and finally beat me up, so I fought with him. I've only had two fights in my life, once on a farm, and the man wouldn't give me water to drink, and I knocked him unconscious. Then there is this time. I usually don't fight, a fight is a desperate fight, probably beat him quite badly, at that time also attracted a lot of people to watch the hilarity.

The cause of this was that I was wrong, and anyway the book I borrowed from him should be returned. But others lost the book, and I had no choice. I knew that the book was precious, especially in that period, and probably had been preserved at great risk, unlike it, which he could buy casually now; perhaps he had borrowed the book and could not be accounted for when he lost it; perhaps the book had a special meaning for him.

We chess players have one of the greatest principles, we can't lose faith in others, so he loses his anger when he hears it. I understand all of this, and I feel guilty, and I've been very guilty until now. But no matter how you say it, you can't beat people with your hands! It hurt my self-esteem a lot. I am now in the Go team against junior chess players, and I find that who has something wrong, I can say him, and even "scold" him, but I can't hit him, and it hurts personality when I hit him.

After this incident occurred, it directly affected my relationship with Chen Zude, so that we could only maintain a normal colleague relationship and could not become a close and good friend. I never took the initiative to visit his house, but only because I was called by work to ask me to go.

Another time was the "New Sports Cup" held in Chengdu in 1980, one night, Chen Zude suddenly had blood in the stool, immediately sent to the hospital for examination, cancer, can not participate in the game. At that time, we did not know what kind of illness he had, the doctor kept it secret, and he himself kept it secret, we only knew that he was seriously ill and could not be discharged. Later, his wives Zheng Minzhi and Luo Jianwen came from Beijing to accompany him at the hospital. We were still playing, and that year it was Wu Songsheng who won the right to challenge and I successfully defended my title 3-1.

At that time, we didn't have a lot of competitions in other places, and we could only go to Chengdu occasionally. During the competition, friends in Sichuan invited me, Wu Songsheng and Hua Yigang to dinner once. This was a very normal thing, but Chen Zude's wife did not know who to believe, saying that I, Wu Songsheng, and many people in the Go team heard that Chen Zude had cancer and drank together to celebrate. What nonsense! Mrs. Chen "filed a complaint" against Jin Ming and other central leaders on this matter. Originally, I didn't know it, but it was Jin Ming who asked me to know that there was such a thing. I was so angry, how could I "frame" someone else like this without any basis? I told Jin Ming the truth, he didn't believe I would do such a thing, and there were so many people involved in the Go team, how could it be?!

Maybe Mrs. Chen felt that Chen Zude was the number one at that time, and it was I who won him, so she thought that we had a big contradiction. In fact, I never felt that there was any big contradiction between us, usually our relationship is OK, we may not be very good friends, but as a chess player, the friendship between us is always there, how can I learn that he has cancer to drink and celebrate? That is definitely not my Nie Weiping person! If that's the case, I'm a "bad" person.

My Go Life (Life): Chen Zude Chen Zude

Chen Zude has always been my superior, once served as the chairman of the Chinese Weiqi Association, the president of the Chinese Chess Academy, and so far I think that Chen Zude is a very upright person, worthy of respect and learning in all aspects, and I have no conflict of interest with him. Although there have been arguments in person, it is normal that they have different views on business and technology. In general, our relationship is normal, some of the "unpleasant" things that happened when we were young have passed, and we are working together with the development of China's Go cause in accordance with the principle of "looking forward".
