Wang Anshi's "Yuan Ri": the most old poem of the year

The Spring Festival is the grandest and most traditional festival of the Chinese nation. It symbolizes people's beautiful expectations for a happy reunion and a beautiful expectation of retiring the old and welcoming the new. Such festivals are naturally indispensable to the poets' various expressions of touching feelings, such as:

Children are strong enough not to sleep, and they keep vigil and rejoice. Su Shi's "Keeping the Age"; New years, spring full of old mountains and rivers. Ye Hao's "Unitary New Orthodoxy"; Life is exhausted with the years, and the world is forgotten. Wen Tianxiang 'Except for the Night'; Hometown tonight thinking of thousands of miles, frost sideburns Ming Dynasty another year. Gao Shi's "Except for the Night"; Half a lamp of Tu Su Yu was not lifted, and the small grass in front of the lamp wrote a peach symbol. Land Tour "Snow Removal at Night"; All things greet the spring and send the remnants of wax, and the end of the year is this evening. Wear retro "Except for the Night".

But to say that the most flavorful and festive Spring Festival poem is still the "Yuan Day" of Wang Anshi of the Song Dynasty.

By highlighting the typical customs of the Spring Festival, this poem describes the cheerful scene of the old and welcoming the new on the first day of the Chinese New Year.

The old year has passed in the sound of firecrackers, and the warm spring breeze is greeted with a cheerful drink of Tusu wine.

Wang Anshi's "Yuan Ri": the most old poem of the year

This has to say about Wang Anshi and Wang Anshi's transformation method.

Wang Anshi (18 December 1021 – 21 May 1086), courtesy name Jiefu, was a prominent politician, writer, thinker, and reformer of the Northern Song Dynasty.

In the third year of Jiayou (1058), the 37-year-old Wang Anshi saw the current situation and root causes of the country's weakness and poverty, and put forward his own proposal for changing the law in the "Letter of Words and Deeds of Emperor Shangrenzong". At that time, it did not attract the attention of Zhao Zhen of Song Renzong.

Ten years later, in April of the first year of The Xining Dynasty (1068), the 47-year-old Wang Anshi and Zhao Zhuo, who had just ascended the throne and were keen on reform, had a very happy conversation and hit it off. The following year, Emperor Shenzong appointed Wang Anshi as the Governor of the Government, began to preside over the change of law, and was promoted to prime minister the following year. He promulgated the Farmland Water Conservancy Law, the Equalization Law, the Green Shoots Law, the Exemption Law, the Municipal Easy Law, the Fangtian Equalization Law, the Armor Protection Law, and the General Soldier Law, etc., comprehensively reformed finance, taxation, the army, and the imperial examination, and built water conservancy projects to develop agricultural production. This change is another huge social change movement in China's history after the Shang martingale change method.

Wang Anshi's transformation method began in the second year of Xi Ning (1069) and ended with the death of Song Shenzong in the eighth year of Yuan Feng (1085), so it is also known as Xi Ning Change Law and Xi Feng Change Law.

The "Xining Reform Law" achieved certain results at that time, changing to a certain extent the situation of poverty and weakness in the Northern Song Dynasty, enriching government finances, and improving national defense strength. However, due to the conservatives' vigorous opposition and the excessive extreme means of changing the law, it left a disaster in the future, and the change of law eventually ended in failure.

As the chief designer of the change, Wang Anshi has always been full of enthusiasm. Especially at the beginning of the change of law, he was full of ambition and full of confidence in the future, believing that the new atmosphere of rich countries and strong soldiers was just around the corner.

This "Yuan Ri" was written on the second year of Xining's new year when Wang Anshi was entrusted with heavy responsibilities and implemented the reform of the law. Ten years of time, a lifetime of ambitions, once realized, for the politician who "hopes to use a comprehensive social change to realize his dream of a rich country and a strong army", it is difficult to hide his inner joy. Inspired by this, I created this poem.

The poem praises the birth of this new thing of reform as full of life as "spring breeze to warm up". The use of "always replace the new peach with the old charm" reflects the profound philosophy that new things will eventually replace the fallen things. The cheerful and optimistic atmosphere revealed in the poem is consistent with the author's mood of beginning to implement new laws, implement reforms, and hope for success.

Wang Anshi's "Yuan Ri": the most old poem of the year

Nearly a thousand years have passed, and although Wang Anshi's ideals and ambitions when he wrote his poems were not realized at that time, the festive and joyful festive atmosphere and the beautiful vision of retiring the old and welcoming the new shown in his poems have been deeply infected by every Chinese. So much so that now, every Spring Festival, people will always take it out and chant.
