Born in 1961 in Guidore, Donegalshire, northwestern Ireland, Enya was originally named Ethne ní bhraonáin, and according to its pronunciation in English, enya brennan is written in English. She was the sixth of nine children in the family. It was a Catholic music house, with his father leading a local dance troupe and his mother being an accompanist and teaching music.

Enya describes her upbringing as "calm and joyful.". She appeared at the local theatre at an early age and joined her mother's choir with her siblings, singing at St. Mary's Church in Driberg. At the age of twelve, Enya attended a boarding school run by the nuns, where she developed a taste in music, both Latin and art.
"I had to finish my school homework and then rush to the neighboring town for piano lessons, and when I was done, there was more homework... I remember when my brothers and sisters were playing outside the house... I was practicing the piano indoors. Such a big sheet music, practiced over and over again. Her goal was to become a "piano teacher" and she never wanted to create or take to the stage. But as she sings in Wild Child, God has something beautiful to give to this child who is a little lonely but clings to good things.
Wild child Child of Nature
Translation: waters
every summer sun
Every summer sun
every winter evening
Every cold winter night
every spring to come
Every knock on the door in the spring
every autumn leaving
Every goodbye autumn
you don't need a reason
Don't ask why
let the day go on and on
Let the years flow like water
what a day, what a day to take to
Good times, God will give
what a way, what a way to make it through
Live beautifully and spend time with you
what a day, what a day to take to a wild child
Good times, God wants to give to innocent children
