After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xiang Shouzhi was once transferred to the artillery unit, and served as the commander of the Second Artillery Corps, the dean of the Artillery Technical College, the deputy commander of the artillery of the People's Liberation Army, the commander of the Second Artillery Corps, and the commander of the Nanjing Military Region. General Xiang Shouzhi was also awarded the rank of major general in 1955 and the rank of general in 1988.
On September 2, 2017, Comrade Xiang Shouzhi, former commander of the Nanjing Military Region and founding major general, died in Nanjing at the age of 100.
