Xiang Shouzhi was born in 1917 in Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province, his father died when he was very young, his brother was also arrested to be a Zhuangding, and only his mother was left to live with him and his sister.
Xiang Shouzhi's revolutionary experience is also very legendary, when he was 12 years old, his sister gave birth to a child, and his mother sent him to see his sister with eggs and glutinous rice. In that place in Sichuan, you also know that there are mountains everywhere, from Xiang Shouzhi's family to his sister's house, you have to cross a mountain with an altitude of more than 1,000 meters, and you have walked for two days and two nights.
But unfortunately, when he went to his sister's house, Xiang Shouzhi was told that his sister was sick when she gave birth, had no money to treat, and had just died.
We can imagine: what would it be like for a 12-year-old child to have a father gone, his brother to be gone, and his only sister to suddenly disappear?
Xiang Shouzhi cried all the way, met a man on the road, and after listening to him, he said to him: "There is a village in front of us, that is, Wang Weizhou's home, which is organizing guerrilla groups. ”
In this way, Xiang Shouzhi joined the guerrilla group and began a revolutionary career.
Four years later, Xu Shiyou led his troops to fight against the Sichuan warlord Liu Cunhou, and Xiang Shouzhi was already a local guerrilla leader, leading a group of Boy Scouts to assist Xu Shiyou in battle. After the war, Xu Shiyou admired the 16-year-old guerrilla leader and took him to join the Red Army.
Xiang Shouzhi is a person who knows the gratitude map, and has great respect for Xu Shiyou all his life, Xu Shiyou has been living in the Nanjing Military Region in his later years, and the commander of the Nanjing Military Region at that time was Xiang Shouzhi, and after Xu Shiyou's death, it was also the aftermath he helped to handle.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Xiang Shouzhi also said another thing, which made him feel very deeply. It was shortly after the Battle of the Hundred Regiments, and the Japanese army continued to sweep the Southern Hebei Plain, and Xiang Shouzhi led the troops to ambush the homes of the common people. At night, as soon as the troops moved, it was inevitable that there would be movement, and the dogs in the village would begin to bark, and the people would kill all the dogs in order to protect them, and there was not a single one left.
Xiang Shouzhi said with emotion until his old age: "For them, dogs are their family, why did they kill dogs to cover us?" It is because we are sincerely fighting devils and sincerely serving them. No matter when, who sincerely does things for the people, the people will naturally support them. ”
There was also Qiu Shaoyun in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, who was also a soldier in Xiang Shouzhi's department, and when he learned the news that Qiu Shaoyun had been burned to death because he did not expose his location, Xiang Shouzhi cried bitterly in front of everyone.
When he was awarded the rank in 1955, Xiang Shouzhi was awarded the rank of major general. In 1988, when our army was awarded the rank of general for the second time, he was awarded the rank of general. Such an experience is very rare in our army.
In 1960, Xiang Shouzhi was recommended as the chief of staff of the Wuhan Military Region, but before he could take office, a new letter of appointment came: the principal of the Xi'an Artillery School.
It should be known that the chief of staff of the Wuhan Military Region is one level higher than the principal of the Xi'an Artillery School, and in the army that pays attention to the level, the significance of the higher level does not need to be said, so Chen Zaidao, commander of the Wuhan Military Region, advised him to consider it. In addition to the level problem, Xiang Shouzhi has also been working in the army and has no experience in running a school.
But Xiang Shouzhi did not hesitate, saying that since the organization gave this order, it was to see that I had this ability to Shouzhi, and I could not live up to the trust of the organization in me. Moreover, if everyone chooses to do their old business, then who will do the new position? Therefore, Xiang Shouzhi, who had no experience in running a school, immediately took up his post and became the principal of the Xi'an Artillery School.
At that time, the Xi'an Artillery School had just been established, whether it was teaching talents or teaching experience, it was very lacking, but Xiang Shouzhi did not complain, starting from scratch, taking everyone to start a business together. Just two years later, Luo Ruiqing visited the school and praised the scale of the school's development.
After Xiang Shouzhi left the job, many large enterprises invited him to be the chairman, and the treatment was very generous, as for what the reason, everyone knew better than me. Therefore, Xiang Shouzhi did not hesitate to refuse, but chose social welfare undertakings, often going to schools, government agencies and units to make free reports to promote social righteousness.
On November 28, 2016, on the centenary birthday of the old general (imaginary age), many old subordinates spontaneously came to wish him a happy birthday, and even many citizens who did not know him also came to send him blessings.
Xiang Shouzhi often said: "I have witnessed the party's ups and downs of more than 90 years, and I think the reason why our party has strength is because it has won the heartfelt support of the people."
