Mao Zedong asked Cheng Siyuan: Do you know what I eat on?

Cheng Siyuan, a doctor of political science, participated in the planning of major historical events such as opposing Chiang Kai-shek, helping Li Zongren run for vice president, forcing generals to step down, and holding peace talks with the Communist Party.

On July 20, 1965, Cheng Siyuan accompanied Li Zongren back to the mainland. On July 26, Mao Zedong informed them to wait for Li Zongren and Cheng Siyuan in Zhongnanhai. After the meeting, Mao Zedong said to Cheng Siyuan: Long-known names are like thunder.

Mao Zedong proposed to swim in the swimming pool, and Cheng Siyuan, Peng Zhen and the guards accompanied the swimming.

After the swim, Mao Zedong invited Cheng Siyuan to his side to talk, and during the conversation, Mao Zedong suddenly asked Cheng Siyuan: Do you know what I rely on to eat? Cheng Siyuan replied blankly: I don't know. Mao Zedong said: I ate by summing up experience; in the past, when we fought wars, after each battle, we would sum up once, draw on positive and negative experiences, carry forward our strong points, overcome our shortcomings, and advance from one victory to another, and finally establish the People's Republic of China.

Mao Zedong also prepared a sumptuous luncheon for Li Zongren and Cheng Siyuan at the Fortress Garden residence.
