In 1914, after Long Yun graduated from the Infantry Section of the Yunnan Army, he began to go to Tang Jiyao's department as an errand boy, and it was not long before Long Yun stood out and was successfully valued by Tang Jiyao, and in 1922 Long Yun was appointed as the commander of the Fifth Army.
However, later Tang Jiyao's behavior really made Long Yun and others extremely disgusted and resentful, so Long Yun and other town guards launched a mutiny, and the result was that Tang Jiyao successfully ousted him, and Long Yun began to take charge of the military and political power in Yunnan, and since then the name of "King of Yunnan" has begun to rise.
Just after Long Yun took charge of Yunnan, he did make a lot of contributions to the local area, first of all, let's talk about the following teaching, when Long Yun founded a lot of schools, such as Zhaotong Kindergarten, Zhaotong Ten County United Girls' Middle School, Yunnan Second People's Education Center, etc.; also recruited ethnic minority children at public expense.
In terms of finance, Long Yun ordered the recovery of the rights and interests of minting, but issued fudian new banknotes and semi-open silver coins, vigorously supported local capital in Yunnan, and supported the establishment of industries.
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Long Yun devoted the strength of the Dian army to the anti-Japanese resistance, and also built the Yunnan-Burma Railway, the Yunnan Burma Highway and the construction of airports.
Of course, Long Yun's greatest feat was undoubtedly august 13, 1949, when he, together with Huang Shaohu and 44 others, issued a statement in Hong Kong entitled "Our Understanding and Propositions of the Chinese Revolution at the Present Stage," expressing a complete break with Chiang Kai-shek.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Long Yun successively served as a member of the Central People's Government, vice chairman of the Southwest Military and Political Committee, vice chairman of the Southwest Administrative Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the First National People's Congress, and vice chairman of the National Defense Commission.
