As the saying goes, "Fight the tiger brothers, fight the father and son soldiers", which is a phrase that we all often hear. During the Three Kingdoms period at the end of the Han Dynasty, many outstanding fathers and sons emerged, such as Lu Xun's father and son who came in and out, Guan Yu's father and son who regretted it, Sun's father and son who divided Jiangdong, Sima father and son who founded the Jin Dynasty, and Zhuge father and son who flowed in later generations. They are remembered by history either for their great talents, or for their great ambitions and blood, or for their wisdom and strategy, or for their noble character.

Among them, Zhang Song and Zhang Cousin, who are mentioned in this article, have a close relationship with Liu Bei and even Yu Shuhan. On the one hand, as far as his father Zhang Song was concerned, in order to help Liu Bei capture Yizhou, he eventually paid the price of his life. On the other hand, Liu Bei obviously did not forget Zhang Song's exploits, although he did not become an official of Shu Han, but Zhang Song's son Zhang Biao became a minister of Shu Han's town guard. hereinafter. Let's take a look at the history of Zhang Song and Zhang Cousin.

Zhang Song

Zhang Song, Zi Qiao, Liu Zhang's subordinate, Yizhou Bei driving. For Zhang Song, historical sources such as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms record that he was unassuming and debauched. To a certain extent, there are similarities with Pang Tong, a strategist under Liu Bei. Moreover, like Pang Tong, Zhang Song often lamented that his life was not in time and he did not meet the right lord. For Zhang Song, although it was Liu Zhang's Yizhou beige, he believed that Liu Zhang was a master without lofty ambitions, and he did not show his talents under him.

In the thirteenth year of Jian'an (208), Liu Biao, the mu of Jingzhou, died of illness, and soon after, Liu Chun surrendered to Cao Cao. As we all know, Yizhou and Jingzhou were interdependent, and in the face of the powerful Cao Cao, Yizhou Mu Liu Zhang sent Zhang Song as an envoy to befriend Cao Cao.

As mentioned earlier, Zhang Song's appearance is not proud, which leads to Cao Cao's inevitable appearance, so he is relatively cold to Zhang Song. Of course, if Cao Cao knew that Zhang Song wanted to sacrifice Yizhou, he would certainly not despise him. However, no matter what, Cao Cao's contempt still caused Zhang Song to hold a grudge in his heart. Therefore, after Zhang Song returned to Yizhou, he persuaded Liu Zhang to make friends with Liu Bei instead. Later, Zhang Song conspired with his friend Fa Zheng to betray Liu Zhang, offering Yizhou to Liu Bei and persuading Liu Zhang to welcome Liu Bei into Shu.

In the sixteenth year of Jian'an (211), Liu Zhang, hearing that Cao Cao was going to lead an army into Hanzhong, was very worried, and Zhang Song suggested that Liu Zhang invite Liu Bei into Sichuan and let him attack Zhang Lu and defend Yizhou. Liu Zhang then sent Fa Zheng and Meng Da to lead 4,000 troops to meet Liu Bei, and Liu Bei led Pang Tong, Huang Zhong, Wei Yan, Zhuo Yi and other generals into Sichuan. During this period, Zhang Song often exchanged letters with Liu Bei, and was eventually discovered and denounced by his brother Zhang Su. In the face of Zhang Song, who betrayed him, Liu Zhang did not give up and killed him. Liu Bei sighed after hearing that Zhang Song had been killed: "It was Zhang Su who killed my Neiying!" ”

It is worth noting that Liu Zhang's move to kill Zhang Song also gave Liu Bei an excuse to launch the Battle of Yizhou. Coupled with Zhang Song's previous efforts, liu bei was able to seize the land of Yizhou, and Zhang Song could be said to be indispensable. Based on this, although Zhang Song was killed, Shu Han obviously would not treat Zhang Song's son Zhang Biao badly, which was one of the reasons why Zhang Biao could become a chancellor of Shu Han.

Zhang Biao (張表), courtesy name Boda, was a native of Chengdu County, Shu County (present-day Chengdu, Sichuan). Minister of shu and Han during the Three Kingdoms period. According to Chen Shou's record in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Zhang Biao was Zhang Song's son. Of course, there are also theories that Zhang Biao is Zhang Su, the brother of his father Zhang Song. However, in general, the recognition of the former statement is relatively high. For Zhang Biao, when he was young, he was also famous with Cheng Qi of Bashi County, Yang Ji of Ba County, and Yang Opera of Qianwei County, and was a famous scholar of Shu Han at that time.

In the middle and late Shu Han Dynasty, Zhang Biao once held the position of Shangshu, that is, participated in the handling of the affairs of the Shu Han court. In 249 (the twelfth year of Yanxi), Ma Zhong, the governor of Yu Dynasty, died in office. During the Three Kingdoms period, there were two generals named Ma Zhong, one from Eastern Wu, that is, he killed Guan Yu's father and son, and the other Ma Zhong was a member of the Shu Han Dynasty, that is, there was a situation of duplicate names. After ma Zhong's death, the Shu Han court made Zhang Biao the governor of The Shu Dynasty and paid homage to the general Annan, thus guarding the southern central region of the Shu Han Dynasty.

In the early years of Jing Yao (258-261 AD), Zhang Biao was officially promoted to Hou General, and before that, Jiang Wei had once demoted himself to Hou General. According to historical records such as the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, during Zhang Biao's stay in Nanzhong, Qinggao's reputation surpassed that of Ma Zhong, but his prestige and achievements were not as good as Ma Zhong.'s. Around the time of the fall of the Shu Han Dynasty, Zhang Biao died of illness while serving in Zhenshou Nanzhong. Although he did not follow Zhuge Liang and Jiang Wei in the Northern Expedition to the Central Plains, Zhang Biao's long-term defense of the southern and central regions of Shu Han undoubtedly created a relatively stable rear for Zhuge Liang and Jiang Wei's Northern Expedition, which was his important contribution to Shu Han.
