Continuing from the previous part, next to the south gate is the Qiangmin Turtle, Sheep and Dog Meat Shop, the original site of this shop is the shop of Dong Tongxing Knife and Scissor Shop.

"Dong Tongxing" knife and scissor shop, founded by Dong Yuanchun, a craftsman who produces razors, was founded during the Kangxi (1662-1722) years, and soon after its opening, it purchased the knife river scissor blanks and processed them for sale. After several generations of rendering, by the Qianlong period, "Dong Tongxing" had become equally famous as "Zhang Xiaoquan" in Hangzhou and "Wang Mazi" in Beijing, and was known as one of the three famous scissors in China.

In 1937, The Shanghai spike products yongxiang, Suzhou and Hangzhou scissors style, good quality and low price, coupled with the Dong family's descendants changed from other industries, followed by no one, and every time the store site was demolished to build the road, the famous store with a history of nearly two hundred years was closed. In 1956, "Dong Tongxing" public-private partnership, its technicians were successively included in the Laodaohe Knife and Scissor Factory.

"Qiangmin" is a mysterious shop, it is said that during the Republic of China, several delicious old foodies were opened, the predecessor was called "Love Love" restaurant, the name is good, first on Cai Yi Road, I don't know when I moved to Huangxing Road. This restaurant makes ingredients that seem strange to ordinary Changsha people, such as turtles, sheep, dogs, snake meat, as well as haggis, dog offal, animal whips, etc.

I am a dog lover, do not eat dog meat, his turtle and sheep soup is drunk, very delicious, umami strong, but there is no mutton soup flavor, which is estimated to add angelica, goji berries and other Chinese medicinal materials. It's just a bit expensive, in the mid-eighties, a small bowl of soup costs five dollars.

There is also an interesting thing, once passed by the "strong people", saw the sign said "winter supply dog eggs", I think the dog is obviously a mammal, give birth to puppies, where will lay eggs? Later, I asked a friend who loves to eat dog meat to learn that the so-called "dog eggs" are not eggs born by dogs. Instead, it is a stewed dog meat simmered egg, and it is said that the dog brain shell stewed egg is the most delicious.

Qiangmin Turtle Sheep and Dog Meat Shop was later renamed "Qiangmin Snack", which is more familiar to today's young people.

Next to the "StrongMin" is the gate of Chang county Middle School, which was still called the Second Middle School at that time, and only after the 1990s did the gate open to its current location in the south.

There is also a communication company between "South Gate" and "Qiangmin", which is a popular product in the 1980s, selling bicycles, watches, sewing machines, washing machines, radios, radio components, etc. There is a hardware store across the road, Huangxing Middle Road is near Wuyi Square, and there is a larger hardware and electricity building.

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

Back to the east side, the north side of the "National Wind" is Xiaogudao Lane, and within a distance of about 150 meters between the Dagudao Lane not far away, the main unit is the Provincial Department of Finance, and there is a pharmacy, I forgot what the name is. The Department of Finance only moved to its new location in the 1990s. The South District Hospital, which was previously famous for its orthopedics, was also on the road between the Big and Small Ancient Road Lanes, and moved to the intersection of Shuyuan Road and West Lake in the 1970s.

Dagudao Lane is named after the former Shanhua County Government Yamen Access Road, which has a long history. The "Changsha Fu Zhi • Changsha Fu City Map" of the twelfth year of the Qianlong Dynasty (1747) is marked with this alley. On the north side of this street, there are ancient medicine washing nunneries and medicine wells, which are said to be used by the Tang Dynasty medical scientist Sun Simiao for washing medicine. In 1938, during the Wenxi Fire, the nunnery was burned down.

There were Xinhua Bookstores and Post Offices to the north of Dagudao Lane, and at that time there were only three state-run Xinhua Bookstores in Changsha, the Largest Xinhua Bookstore on Wuyi Road, and the other was the Xinhua Bookstore in Changsha County, Wangjia Lane.

It is worth mentioning that the original site of this Xinhua bookstore on Huangxing South Road was once a famous commercial press, from the Xinhua Dictionary in primary schools to the Modern Chinese Dictionary in middle schools, everyone is familiar with the oldest publishing institution in China's publishing industry.

The Commercial Press was founded in Shanghai in 1897, marking the beginning of China's modern publishing industry; in 1907, a new site for the Printing General Factory and the Compilation Institute was built in Shanghai; in 1909, the library that compiled the collection of rare books and reference books was named Hanfen Lou, which was later renamed the Oriental Library and opened to the public; the Oriental Library was known as the "First library in East Asia", and in the "1.28" Songhu War of Resistance in 1932, the General Affairs Office, the Compilation Office, the Printing General Factory and the Oriental Library were burned down by the Japanese army, and suddenly disappeared overnight. The priceless rare books and orphan books have since disappeared, which cannot but be said to be a major disaster in the history of Chinese culture.

Some scholars believe that the bombing of the Commercial Press is one of the most painful civilization tragedies in China's modern history.

The reason why the Japanese army wanted to blow up the Commercial Press was that the Japanese admiral and then commander of the Shanghai Dispatch Army, Shiozawa Koichi, said very clearly: "Burn down a few streets in Zhabei and restore it in a year and a half." Only if the Commercial Press, China's most important cultural institution, is burned down, it can never be restored. ”

In the second year of its establishment, that is, in 1898, the Commercial Press set up a branch office in Changsha, the site of the original red arch building Niujiao Lane, later moved here, built two Western-style three-story facades; on the eve of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Commercial Press built a printing plant in Changsha; after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the General Administration Office was also moved to Changsha, and then moved to Chongqing because of the "Battle of Changsha", and moved back to Shanghai after the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression; and moved to Beijing in the 1950s.

There is also a clothing mall here, which used to be the store department of the four garment factories. Dagudao Lane is a famous luggage street, and later the small gudao lane was also developed.

The most famous in this section are "Xu Changxing" and "Daoxiang Village", eating roast duck, and "Quanjude" in the north and "Xu Changxing" in the south. Xu Changxing Roast Duck Shop was originally built in Nanjing, moved to Changsha during the Qing Guangxu period at the beginning of the last century, operated by Xu Peizhai and famous for "hanging oven roast duck" and "one duck and four eating". Roast duck, from the selection of ingredients, slaughtering and processing to eating, has its own originality. The eating method of "one duck and four eating" is also very unique, one eats pancake wrapped roast duck skin, two eats duck meat stir-fried, three eats duck oil steamed eggs, and four eat vegetable heart duck bone soup.

Another "Daoxiang Village", according to legend, is in 1773, when Qianlong went down to jiangnan, after tasting the Daoxiangcun honey cake in Suzhou, "praised the food in the product, delicious and rare", the well royal plaque, wrote "Daoxiangcun" three big characters. To this day, the trademark of "Daoxiangcun" in Suzhou still uses the three characters of Qianlong Yubi "Daoxiangcun". During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period, the guys and clerks of Daoxiang Village fled to a relatively stable city in order to make a living, and the Daoxiangcun brand has since spread across the country. The southern food shops in DaoxiangCun have sprung up like mushrooms in various places, relying on the golden signs of Daoxiangcun to set up their own portals and flaunting themselves as truly unique. However, due to the information blockage at that time, there was no brand awareness as support, and there was no awareness of trademark protection, and everyone just maintained their livelihood with the aura of "Daoxiang Village". In the past two years, the two largest companies, Suzhou "Daoxiangcun" and Beijing", have also fought lawsuits over who is the real owner of the "Daoxiangcun" trademark.

Changsha "Daoxiang Village" during the Republic of China

It is not clear which "Daoxiang Village" in Changsha originated from, but it was opened in 1915 by Zhu Youliang, a native of Zhenhai, Zhejiang. The operation is quite distinctive, known for "clear, fine and fresh", that is, clean and hygienic, fine workmanship, and fresh and tender products. At that time, it was most prominent in Changsha city.

In 1956, Daoxiangcun public-private partnership was changed to Jiuruxin Food Store; in 1966, it was renamed Dali New Food Store; in 1983, it was restored to its original name, and the store hall was renovated, still maintaining the traditional business characteristics.

Further north is the Chinese barber shop at the mouth of Loom Street, which is also one of the famous shops in Changsha's barber industry, but it is not as famous as the Nanjing barber shop on Jiefang Road not far from here.

There is also a local pastry factory founded in the 1980s, Zhenxing zhai, which once became a representative of Hunan-style pastries because of its unique taste and good management.

There is also an old bookstore opposite Xinhua Bookstore, which has a small façade. There is an optical shop in the alleyway, which is also an old shop, which seems to be the store department of Changsha Glasses Factory, and my first pair of glasses was equipped here. The cold drink shop next to the optical shop is remembered very clearly, called "Red Star Cold Drink Shop", and the more famous "Red Plum Cold Drink Shop" is a word difference, but the taste is the same good, and the price is cheap, and it is open all night in the summer, but in the seventies it was only a dime a cup of sour plum soup, and the price rose to five cents in the mid-eighties, and the cup was much smaller.

The alley here is called Fanxi Lane, which was a shoe street in the late 1980s.

After passing through Fanxi Lane, the most famous is "Deyuan", "Yang Yuxing's noodles, Xu Changxing's duck, Deyuan's buns are really good", among the three famous stores, "Xu Changxing" and "Deyuan" are on Huangxing South Road, and "Yang Yuxing" is not far away, on Jiefang Road.

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

Deyuan was founded in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, as a husband and wife shop opened by Tang Shengde near the Octagonal Pavilion, taking the meaning of "There is Virtue Zele, Le Ze Long" in the "Left Biography", named "Deyuan". In the early years of the Republic of China, several unemployed officials and cooks raised funds to join the company, and the Deyuan Garden, which had changed hands several times but had no achievements, moved the store to Fanxi Lane, because the dishes were always made with seafood fresh goods and other superior residual materials, in order to avoid waste, so they chopped it up and mixed it into the bun point filling core, who knew that this competition made their bun dot flavor strange and favored. Since then, Deyuan buns have greatly invigorated their reputation, and they have the praise of "hot spraying out of the cage, white skin is noisy, roses are sweet and fragrant, and shiitake mushrooms are fresh and tender".

Deyuan is filled with rose sugar, shiitake mushroom fresh meat, rock sugar salt dish, Yaozhu fresh meat, golden hook fresh meat, crystal, hemp mushroom, char siu meat as the filling of the bun, called "eight famous bags", famous in the city. After the "Wenxi" fire in Changsha, some of the masters of the original class re-raised funds and built the shop again, named deyuan tea hall.

After 1986, the Deyuan Tea Hall adjusted the store hall and expanded the business area.

On the opposite side, the loom street entrance is the Daxin Silk Cloth Shop, which is not as famous as "Jiechang", and it is also an old shop. Then there is The Lee He Sheng Beef Restaurant. Li Hesheng was founded in the eleventh year of Qing Guangxu (1885), operated by Li Guoan, a Huimin from Taojiang in Yiyang, to Changsha, and has been passed down from generation to generation, and has a history of more than 100 years. It is a well-known Muslim restaurant in Changsha, the most famous for simmering beef, and the treasure of the town store is the three masters of cattle - braised beef brain marrow, hair silk beef blinds, braised beef hoof tendons.

Hengkang Sauce Garden is also in this area, Changsha has five major sauce gardens, two of which are on Huangxing South Road, namely Demaolong Sauce Garden and Hengkang Sauce Garden. Yuhe Sauce Garden is also in the not far Pozi Street, and the other two are Xiechangyu Sauce Garden and Wu Hengtai Sauce Garden.

The north side of Hengkang Sauce Garden is an old building, the Republic of China period was the Bank of Communications, after the founding of the People's Republic of China was merged into the newly established Construction Bank, so in the 1980s here has been the Construction Bank, the house is very grand, the building is four stories high, high hemp stone steps, the wall is equipped with cast iron railings.

Further past, we will go to the mouth of Sujia Lane, where there is a golden watch shop. "Inch Yin Golden Watch Shop Company" was founded by Cao Ruiming in 1916. The history is not as long as the not far "Hendry", but the name is equally loud. Not only do we sell and repair watches, but we can also manufacture them. The company's advertisement said: "Clocks and watches are the most important impulses of civilized countries, and in the past, China was not independent, and it was rarely manufactured." ”

Before there was no inch of yin gold, the valuable clocks and watches of large households in Changsha needed to be repaired, and they had to be brought or sent to the foreign port. Cao's courage to be realistic and innovative, through the company's efforts, outstanding achievements, their own production of fishtail, sun pavilion sitting clock, praised by the public and impressed by the industrialists.

In addition to selling clocks and watches, it also deals with glasses with glasses, frames, and hooks and chains of various qualities such as gold, silver, steel, and nickel, which are popular in anthology. "Many watch accessories come from foreign famous factories, sophisticated machinery, strange and exquisite styles of clocks and watches, but also operate sundials, nautical compasses, etc.," all valuable clocks, ordinary clocks, typewriters, foreign organs, organs, octagons, school plotters and various instruments, cameras, sewing machines, phonographs, wind and rain watches, all that must be repaired or added and plated, as well as the manufacture of astronomical clocks and large clocks on all sides of the building can be successfully engraved on all sides ... "All were watched and sold by the society" at that time, of which only "the astronomical clocks were built", which showed that its technology was excellent and its reputation was improved.

The west side from the Deyuan to the north, close to the Daomen, the so-called Daomen because it is on the mouth of the Grain Road Street, this alley is called the Grain Road Street, is the Qing Dynasty Grain Road Yamen location. At the entrance of the road, it was the largest aquatic product market in Changsha at that time. In addition to the butcher's shop at the entrance of the road, there are also several shops selling fish and bacon, aquatic products, and seafood. At that time, the transportation and storage capacity was not good, so seafood was not available, and the seafood store sold other dry goods in addition to kelp. Like dried cuttlefish, dried squid and the like.

The best business is the Daomen Lak Restaurant, which specializes in making and selling bacon, bacon, bacon, chicken and other wax products. Hunan people make pickled food, which has long been famous, and bacon is the most important. Daomen Lashi Restaurant uses the traditional method of smoking and marinating, which is fresh and crispy, and its taste is endless.

On the north side of the shop is a Huimin food store, and then to the mouth of Pozi Street, there is a building on the mouth is a tea company, this building was famous in the Republic of China period Li Wenyu gold number. It was a gold trumpet opened by Li Wenyu, a native of Jiangxi during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, and was once the first household of Changsha Jinhao. The section from Pozi Street And the sujia lane mouth to the mouth of The Nursery Street opposite, formerly known as the Red Arch, was named after the red lacquer arch of the Jiwang Mansion in the Ming Dynasty.

The Red Arch Building during the Republic of China period

Opposite the north side of Sujia Lane is the Aiqun Tea House, which is also a veteran tea house, and the buns are also doing well. There are four shops selling buns on this street, the most famous is Deyuan, but I eat the most in the early Qingxin Building and the later Silver Garden. Changsha old mouth drink tea has a fixed place, in the mid-1980s I was a factory worker, several masters in the workshop on rest days are willing to seek far away, from the kiln ridge to love the group to drink tea.

Aiqun further north to the mouth of Baby Care Street, where there is a Siyitang Pharmacy, founded by the four Lee brothers in 1936, originally named Li Siyitang. Sufficient inventory, quality of drugs, complete varieties, and even customer trust, soon became a large household in Changsha's traditional Chinese medicine retail industry. After the founding of New China, Li Siyitang was changed to a public-private partnership, still using the "Siyitang" signboard, but removing its "Li" character.

There are many old pharmacies on this road, in addition to the several introduced above, like One of the earliest and preserved famous old brands in Changsha, Jiuzhitang, was also in PoziJiekou, in the early years of the Qing Kangxi Dynasty, opened by Suzhou people Laozheng, known as "Laojiuzhitang". The name of the hall is taken from the meaning of "Tianxiang Book House Diagram, Planting Double Gui, Gui Sheng JiuZhi" painted by Lao Zheng. Later, it was moved to Xinxing Road (the southern section of present-day Huangxing South Road).

Pozi Street Junction

There is also the Changsha Jiangdong Grain and Trade Building in the south of the nursery street, and the façade of the first floor was later opened to rent to many small merchants.

To the west, there is also a small alley called "Niujiao Lane" between the entrance of the road and Pozi Street. There is a restaurant called "Ishi Sansheng" inside, which is very famous in the 1970s. Then it disappeared.

To the north of Pozi Street there is the People's Shoe and Hat Shop, which was created in the 1950s and was the largest shoe and hat franchise store in Changsha before the 1990s.

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

The people's shoe and hat shop came over as "Wu Damao", whose predecessor was Wu Damao needle number. Mainly engaged in steel needles, after the operation of wire, buckle, enjoy the reputation of "old steel needles, genuine". During the Qing Jiaqing period, Liu Damao, a native of Jiangxi, came to Changsha and opened a needle-making workshop in YuBao Street, Liu Wuzi, with an apprentice named Wu Weixiang; Daoguang Twenty-four Years (1844), Liu Died, Wu inherited the industry, changed the brand name to Wu Damao Needle, and moved to the current site of the Red Arch Building, the front shop and the factory operation, the main varieties are needles for cotton clothes, cross needles for making oil shoes and clogs, nail needles for hats, needles for fish and no-hole bandages, etc., and later began to make clothing needles.

In the twenty-ninth year of Guangxu (1903), a large number of foreign goods were imported, the hand-sharpened needles lost the market, the Wu workshop was forced to stop, specializing in imported steel needles, and drawing funds to add Wu Damao Su Guangyang goods store across the street, specializing in small commodities, especially known for the complete range of lamps and lanterns; during the Republic of China period, the foreign goods store twice operated department stores, both closed due to poor management, only the needle shop still existed and continued to maintain its original characteristics; in 1938, the "Wenxi Fire", Wu Damao was burned, and suffered heavy losses; the following year, funds were raised and the shed was opened In 1944, the Japanese army invaded Changsha, and the needle shop was closed, and it was not until the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945 that the Wu Damao needle was resumed.

After the liberation of Changsha, Wu Damao still operated needles, threads, buckles, clips, etc., and by the time of the public-private partnership in 1956, Wu's family had been passed down for five generations; after the joint venture, the store was transferred to the management of Changsha Department Store; in 1964, Wu Damao Needle was renamed As a Volkswagen Needle Button Shop; in 1966, it was renamed Changsha Needle Buckle Store; in February 1985, the store built a three-story building on the original site, renamed Changsha Small Commodity Mall, and was divided into two floors.

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

Opposite Wu Damao's Baby Nursery Street, there was a porcelain shop and consignment shop, further north is the old Hendry watch shop, the predecessor of the Qing Guangxu 11 years (1885) Zhang Guiyang founded the "Zhang Guiji" watch repair shop, the first store in the north point of the East Arch Building; in 1905, Zhang Guiyang died, his apprentice Sun Runquan undertook, renamed "Rixinheng"; in the early years of the Republic of China, the watch industry gradually developed, "Rixinheng" watch repair shop scale gradually expanded, in 1920 with the Shanghai Hendry Watch Headquarters joint number, The purchase of this section of the house at the entrance of the division was opened, renamed "Changsha Hendry Watch Shop", a foreign name; after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the public-private partnership also operated glasses, named "Hendry Watch and Glasses Store".

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

"Hendry" north of the mouth of the Jiefang intersection, is a famous women's products store, men are reluctant to enter this shop, I have been with the mother and laozi several times, the impression in addition to more flower cloth, there is nothing special. I've never seen those mysterious, sexy feminine products. Changsha people are accustomed to calling it "women's shop", just like "children's shop", omitting the word "supplies", which sounds a little strange.

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

Opposite "Wu Damao" next to a gold shop, this section has five or six gold shops, can not remember the name, there should be an old shop. Further north is the old building of the Changsha Public Security Bureau, which was the Qing Dynasty yamen of The Yangtai. 臬台 is the official in charge of the judiciary, "臬" means "Fadu" in ancient Chinese, so the envoy is also called "臬台". During the Republic of China period, this was the Changsha Police Station, and the old street next to it was named Houhou Street, which was named after the Yamen of The Taitai. This section is named Simen (司門門), which is also named because the Tsukiji and The Domain Division are not far from here (the west entrance of Jiefang Road is facing HouHou Street, while the east exit of Jiefang Road is facing Fanzheng Street where the former Fantai Yamen in Hunan is located).

The transformation of the old Huangxing Road (2): from Xu Changxing's duck to Qiangmin's turtle, sheep and dog meat

This old photograph was also taken by the Japanese Shimazaki, the bulletin board in front of the police station during the Republic of China. In the late Qing Dynasty, Huang Zunxian returned from overseas and served as an envoy to Hunan, and in July 1898, Huang Zunxian founded China's earliest police agency, the "Hunan Security Bureau", which introduced modern policing from the West to China.

Changsha was the first city in China to establish a police system. Now in the Hunan Police Academy, a statue of Huang Zunxian is erected to commemorate the historical figure who first created the police system in China. During the Republic of China period, the Qing Dynasty's Taitai Yamen became the "Provincial Capital Police General Bureau".

There is also the Simen Office of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and the first individual department store in Changsha after the reform and opening up, China Department Store.
