The course of events was as follows: One day, Zhang Chunqiao presided over a meeting attended by cadres at and above the division level and invited Xu Shiyou to attend. At 8:00 a.m., the people arrived, but xu Shiyou still did not arrive. Zhang Chunqiao was anxious, took off his glasses and wiped them again.
After 8 o'clock in the time, Zhang Chunqiao was sullen, leaving aside the host, he picked up the microphone himself, announced the meeting, and said: "Commander Xu, a monk of the Shaolin Temple, I have done the three requests 'Zhuge', and I still don't see his shadow." Don't wait, let's hold a meeting..." Since then, Xu Shiyou became a monk at the age of 8, and he left without hesitation, inside and outside the military, everyone knows it.
So, has Xu Shiyou ever studied Shaolin martial arts? The answer is yes. Xu Shiyou has this passage in his memoirs "Ten Years in the Red Army": "In order to defend the fruits of the revolution, we 'mud-legged people' have established our own armed forces. Because I had studied Shaolin martial arts and knew a little military knowledge, I was selected as the captain of the peasant volunteer brigade and the captain of the artillery team in the six townships of Magang. Xu Shiyou also said in his autobiography: "I worked as a miscellaneous servant at the Shaolin Temple at the age of 8 until I left at the age of 16. Over the years, I have learned eighteen weapons, learned to walk on the wall, and I have worked hard. I did not become a monk at the Shaolin Temple. Because the family was too poor to eat. At the age of 8, he went to the Shaolin Temple as a small miscellaneous servant, specializing in carrying water, chopping firewood, cleaning and other chores, and also serving the monks in the temple. As soon as he had time, he secretly hid aside to watch the monks practice martial arts and learn as they watched.
Xu Shiyou said: "Entering the Shaolin Temple is not easy, and it is also necessary to take the exam. The content of the exam is very simple, but it is difficult to pass the exam, that is, when entering the Shaolin Temple, you have to sleep on the wall for a few nights. There are a few big nails nailed to the wall, to lie on the nails, half hanging in the air to sleep, if you don't fall down for two or three nights, you will be admitted, otherwise, you don't want to enter the door of the Shaolin Temple. Due to the compulsion of life, I gritted my teeth and had to stay up for a few nights without falling, and I was admitted.
At the Shaolin Temple, learn some real kung fu and be willing to endure hardships. What is three years of 'sticking to the wall'? A few half-cut wooden stakes were nailed to the wall, and he slept on the top at night, and he could only lean on his side and stick to the wall, his whole body was tight, and his body would fall down as soon as he was soft. This is light exercise. During the day, sandbags must be tied to the legs, whether it is work or martial arts training, they are not allowed to take them off. Light exercises were completed, and the cornices walked on the wall. The house was high, and I jumped on it without hesitation. What is called three years of 'hanging arms', find a place at night, regardless of the door frame, roof beams, arms hanging on the head for the night. Practice sandbags again during the day. This is practicing arm strength. There is also iron sand palm, how to practice? In the first year, five fingers straightened, practiced inserting soybeans, and took turns with two hands. How far have you practiced? A bucket of soybeans, one hand inserted to the end; the second year, a bucket of millet; the third year, a bucket of sand. The iron sand palm was trained, but it was powerful. Grab a handful of meat, fork a man with five holes. ”
Xu Shiyou also said humorously: "Wu Song, who fought tigers in Jingyang Gang, only learned martial arts for 6 years at the Shaolin Temple. I practiced at the Shaolin Temple for 8 years, two years more than Wu Song. ”
