Purpose of the experiment

Materials required for the experiment
Igniter, eyeshadow, brush, teaspoon
White paper, candles, fresh lemons
Experimental procedure
1. Cut the lemon in half, squeeze out the fresh lemon juice and serve in a teaspoon.
2. Write with a brush dipped in lemon juice on plain A4 paper and dry the paper.
3. Place the dried "wordless" white paper above the candle fire and bake slowly (pay attention to the heat, the fire can not be large or small, and it should not be too close. Be sure to be careful with candles)
4. In order to make the handwriting look better, add eyeshadow to the lemon juice, write again, and bake again.
Phenomenon and principle analysis
Through the above experiments, we found that the handwriting written in lemon juice has become invisible after drying on the paper, and the handwriting is reproduced after baking on a low fire above the candle fire. The addition of eyeshadow makes the handwriting more shiny.

Why is this happening? This has to start with the characteristics of lemons.
Lemon is a common fruit and is also a medicinal herb. We all know that lemons are rich in vitamin C, but there is also an ingredient called cellulofol in lemons that is little known. Writing on paper with lemon juice, cellulophen lowers the ignition point of the paper, and when the paper is heated by candle flames, the place covered by lemon juice is first scorched (i.e., carbonized), thus showing a brownish yellow color. When you add eyeshadow, the handwriting appears shiny and cool.
In fact, in addition to lemons, other substances that can be used as invisible ink include orange juice, grape juice, onion juice, vinegar and wine. It is also worth mentioning milk, which can also be used to generate invisible information, because milk is slow to heat and therefore turns brown when heated. Give it a try!
