In his early years, Sun Bing studied the art of war with Pang Juan under the Gate of Ghost Valley. After that, Pang Juan went down the mountain first, found a job in the State of Wei, and was appointed as a general by King Hui of Wei.
According to the "Records of History", Pang Juan knew that Sun Zhen's ability was stronger than his own. Therefore, he sent emissaries to invite Sun Zhen to come to wei to work with him. Sun Bing did not know the plan and gladly went. Who knew that as soon as he arrived in the State of Wei, Pang Juan designed to frame Sun Zhen and sentence him to a cruel "bing" punishment, that is, to goug out his kneecap. Not only that, Pang Juan also tattooed words in his face, reducing him to slavery.
It can be seen that the reason why Pang Juan treated Sun Zhen in this way was because he was jealous of Xian's ability and was afraid that Sun Zhen would surpass himself. So, pang juan's cruelty to his friend Sun Zhen, is it really just jealousy can be so simple?
In 1964, a large Han tomb was found in the southwestern foothills of Yinque Mountain in Linyi City, Shandong Province, and a large number of bamboo jian from the Han Dynasty was excavated. What is surprising is that in this Han tomb, the long-lost "Sun Bing Art of War" has reappeared. Prior to this, some scholars had been suspicious of the existence of the Art of War of Sun Tzu, believing that it was actually a book with the Art of War of Sun Tzu. However, with the advent of the "Art of War of Sun Bing", scholars finally reached a consensus: "Sun Bing's Art of War" and "Sun Zi's Art of War" are two books, and Sun Bin and Sun Wu are two different people.

"Encircling Wei and saving Zhao" is one of the most familiar strategies in the Chinese. In 354 BC, the State of Wei launched a major attack on the State of Zhao. During the battle, Pang Juan led the Wei army to defeat the State of Zhao and killed all the way to the vicinity of its capital, Handan. Due to the critical situation, Zhao Guo urgently asked the State of Qi for help.
According to the Records of History, the Qi general Tian Ji originally wanted to directly rescue the State of Zhao and defeat the Wei army under Handan. However, Sun Bin did not think much of this, in his opinion, the main force of the Wei state was all going north, and the country was very empty. It is necessary to lead the troops directly to take the Wei capital Liang, force the Wei army to return to reinforcements, and then wait for work to intercept the enemy army in the middle.
After that, Tian Ji obeyed Sun Zhen's instructions and led his troops to take the girder directly. Pang Juan did indeed lead the army back to reinforcements, and as a result, he was ambushed by the State of Qi at Guiling, and the State of Wei was defeated. In the Art of War of Sun Bing, the author Sun Bing added quite a few details to the Battle of Guiling. And these details are not included in the "Chronicle of History".
According to Sun Bing's records, although the Wei state exerted its main forces, it still retained a considerable number of troops to defend the State of Qi. It was not easy to lure the main force of the Wei state back to China. And with 80,000 Qi troops to break through the girders of the high pond and deep in the city, it is even more fantastic. In order to hook Pang Juan back to the State of Wei, Sun Bin conceived an extremely cruel plan.
First of all, Sun Zhi suggested that Tian Ji should first attack the Pingling City of the State of Wei. Although pingling city was small, it had a large area under its jurisdiction, a large population, and a strong military force, and was a strategic area in the Dongyang area (referring to the area east of The Wei capital Daliang), which was difficult to conquer. At the same time, Pingling City was located between the Song And Wei kingdoms. The State of Qi attacked the city and needed to cross the border, so the grain route was difficult to guarantee. The art of war emphasizes avoiding the real and being virtual, and Sun Zhen has to hit this "reality" with his head hard. In the eyes of others, Sun Bin actually committed a big taboo in the military family.
After choosing the direction of attack, Sun Zhen asked Tian Ji again: "In our army, who has the worst command ability?" To this, Tian Ji replied, "I'm afraid it's Qi Cheng and Gao Tang' two doctors!" So Sun Zhen calmly said, "Then I suggest that the general should attack Pingling City with the two doctors as the forwards." ”
Pingling was not easy to attack, and now it is necessary to send two of the worst generals to fight the forward, and everyone will be confused. However, Tian Ji had always been convinced of Sun Zhi and agreed to his plan. After that, Doctor Qi Cheng and Master Gao Tang were indeed defeated at Pingling City, and the two were killed one after another, and the two armies they led were completely destroyed.
In the face of this great defeat, Sun Zhen continued to advise, "Well, we should now spare Pingling and take the enemy capital Daliang directly." Tian Ji saw that the Second Doctor had just been defeated, and Sun Zhi still wanted to attack Da liang, so he asked in horror, "We have just suffered such a big defeat, how can we continue to attack the enemy's well-fortified capital?" In this regard, Sun Bing replied: "I just want to create the illusion that we do not understand the art of war." ”
It turned out that the reason why Sun Bing risked attacking Pingling and deliberately sacrificing the two doctors was entirely to create the illusion that the Qi army could easily defeat. Pang Juan found that the Qi army's command was chaotic and its combat effectiveness was extremely weak, and he would definitely temporarily put aside the attack on the Zhao state and destroy the Qi army in the name of returning to Aid Daliang. Who wouldn't eat the fat that comes to their mouth?
Therefore, Pang Juan did indeed lead a light army to the aid of Da Liang. Who knew that Sun Zhen had already set up an ambush at Guiling, which led to a major defeat of the Wei army and the capture of Pang Juan in a battle.
From a tactical point of view, Sun Bing's Battle of Guiling is not exquisite. But when you think about it carefully, it makes people feel the terrible thing about Sun Bing. In order to achieve victory, Sun Bing did not hesitate to deliberately sacrifice the lives of the Second Doctor and the army to which they belonged. Although it is said that "mercy does not control the soldiers", it does not mean that the lives of soldiers can be sacrificed nakedly.
There is no only way to lure Pang Juan back to help. But sacrificing the Second Doctor and their army was the most efficient way to do it. For the sake of efficiency, Sun Bin can sacrifice the lives of others without hesitation.
It can be seen from this that Sun Zhen's viciousness and selfishness are no less than Pang Juan's. For Sun Bing's disposition, how did Pang Juan, who had lived with him day and night, not know? Originally, the talents of Pang Juan and Sun Zhen were not different. Therefore, Pang Juan framed Sun Zhen, to a large extent, to be the first to attack. Pang Juan does not tidy up Sun Juan, who can guarantee that Sun Juan will not attack Pang Juan in the future? After all, the art of oniguzi is the art of self-interest. Therefore, Pang Juan's harm to Sun Zhen is not necessarily jealous of Xian's ability.
