The mystery of the whereabouts of Li Zicheng, the king of the unknown world

author:Auspicious Ruyi 15217

In Chinese history, zhu Yuanzhang was the only one who grew from peasants to emperors, but if you count the divided regime, the number has increased. For example, Li Zicheng, a famous leader of the rebel army in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, established the Dashun regime in Xi'an, and he was also a literal peasant.

In March 1644, Li Zicheng rode a high-headed horse and led his peasant brothers into the city of Beijing. After the test of life and death, today he finally realized his dream of being an emperor and tasted the fruits of victory, and he was very excited. However, the good times did not last long, and after more than a month, he had to leave Kyoto reluctantly and helplessly, retreating again and again, and soon disappeared from history. How did he say goodbye?

Traditional theory holds that Li Zicheng was killed. Under the joint attack of the Manchu Qing forces and the remnants of the Ming Dynasty, the peasant army led by Li Zicheng repeatedly failed, first withdrawing from Beijing, then repeatedly retreating south, and finally retreating to Hubei, where it was raided by Xiang Yong and lost his life. The History of Ming, the Chronicle of ming, Ping Kouzhi, Ming Jibeiluo, Records of Sin, and some Fang Zhi all hold this view. As for the place where Li Zicheng was killed, there are different theories, some say that he died in Luogong Mountain in Qianyang County, some say that he died in Jiugong Mountain in Chenzhou, and most say that he died in Jiugong Mountain or Zhujiling in Tongshan County. The first two statements are certainly not true, because Li Zicheng did not retreat to Chenzhou, Qianyang and other places. Jiugong Mountain, southeast of Tongshan County, was a necessary point for his march, so many people, including contemporary scholars, adopted the Tongshan County theory.

However, since the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, some people have expressed doubts about Li Zicheng's death in Tongshan. The Qing dynasty man He Xuan believed that Li Zicheng was not killed by a man, but went to the Jiashan Monastery in present-day Linli as a monk, called Feng Tianyu monk, and died in February of the Kangxi Jiayin. Later, many people also believed that Li Zicheng's death in Tongshan originated from the two reports of the Qing general Azig and the Qing general He Tengjiao, and these two reports were written based on the rumors heard from the mouths of individual "descendants" or "generals", and their authenticity and reliability are questionable. The Tongshan County Chronicle did not record the death of Li Zicheng here in the early days, and it was not until the Tongzhi period that he was supplemented according to the "History of Ming", and the discussion of killing thieves was not equal to Li Zicheng. In recent years, people have found some new materials near Jiashan Temple, including a new stele standing in front of the Fengyu Monk Pagoda, the Fengtian Jade Monk's Ashes Altar, the "Zhongxing Jiashan Ancestral Court Honglu Fengtian Jade Pagoda Inscription", and the "Plum Blossom Hundred Rhymes" that is said to have been written during Li Zicheng's seclusion, which has strengthened the belief of those who believe that Li Zicheng is a monk in Jiashan. However, all these people who did not convince those who advocated Li Zicheng's "martyrdom through the mountain" continued.
