The shape of the room follows the curvilinear wall, and the outline is no longer a gestalt space, but is squeezed into two parts, living and bathroom, and the four rooms are like four irregular pieces of a puzzle fitted together. The missing corners caused by the plane topology are filled by the half-height fence, and the external contour is complete, and the interior becomes the small inner courtyard of each guest room.

background
In 2018, Taizheng Construction received an invitation from E-House Lenong to participate in a public welfare poverty alleviation project, aiming to transform a hollowed-out village into a homestay, activate the idle assets of the village collective, and revitalize the rural economy. The project is located in Xiyaotou Village, Wei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. Over the years, the main labor force in the village has gone out to work, and their children have also been arranged to study in the county seat, and now there are only more than 100 permanent residents in the village, and the village is gradually hollowed out, and many homesteads are abandoned.
▲Bird's-eye view © of the village Guo Zhewei County has a long history, known as Ulzhou in ancient times, one of the "Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun", its green sand kiln, paper-cutting, shadow puppetry, etc., are all intangible cultural heritage inherited by Ul County for hundreds of years, Yiju Lenong FA Commune hopes to integrate the original historical context of the countryside and the creative space provided by a number of architects, and use the power of design to promote the rebirth of a village, let the people in the city come over, let the people in the village participate together, and make it a model for poverty alleviation and revitalization.
Xiyaotou Village is far away from the town center, with inconvenient transportation and single economic activities. As a public welfare project, the planner put forward extremely strict control requirements for the cost at the beginning of the design, and emphasized simplicity and locality for the construction. We have also given up many practices that require craftsmanship, such as rammed earth and wooden structures, which seem to be rural but are actually "exquisite", and directly use green bricks that can be fired locally as the main building materials.

The green sand ware in Diwei County is particularly famous, its material is rough and not decorated, the form is plump and round, and it is a kind of local art with a mellow taste. The design of our B&B also wanted to respond to this unique local art in terms of material and form.

▲The green sand ware firing base is a square field with a side length of 18 meters, a gourd-shaped courtyard is embedded in the center, and four guest rooms are arranged around the courtyard.

The flowing curved wall also creates a sense of fluidity in the very small guest room space, so that the pure white space without decoration will not be overly boring, and the cost is further controlled, and some of the furniture is also donated by the FA Commune. The exterior courtyard is enclosed by a hollow wall, which guarantees the privacy of the small inner courtyard of the guest rooms.

In the future, Renhe B&B will mainly operate group guests and families, and it will be an "acquaintance" environment. In this group of guest room designs, we introduced a public climbing path, which climbs up the stairs along the wall of the gourd courtyard, connecting the circulation lines of the outer street, the roof, and the inner courtyard.

▲Courtyard and platform © Guo Zhe's streamlined setting has become the most talked about place in the village as early as during the construction period. Whether it is the local villagers who participated in the construction or the tourists who came from afar during the operation stage, the roof of the gourd courtyard is everyone's favorite place to stop, and with the pond on the south side, it has become a beautiful scene in the village to enjoy the sunset.
