Yixing Ceramics Center is a private development that offers showrooms, studios, and office space for a family-owned business. As a long-established purple sand ceramic manufacturing base, Yixing City provides a rich cultural background for this unique building.

▲Project Overview © In order to cope with the constraints of the site and the requirements of the project, Wang Peng adopted the composition of three linear blocks – two outer wings and a central atrium space. Each of the two wings contains the majority of the owner's use space, with the blocks on the street side accommodating spaces for public positioning such as exhibition galleries and cafés, while the back street blocks contain relatively private spaces such as sales and office space. The two wings are separated by a spacious and bright atrium, which injects open space throughout the development.

▲ façade details © The internal characteristics of Wang Peng's building are mainly defined by the large staircase in the atrium, which is a flexible display space. The display area, planting area and lounge area are integrated into the staircase design, allowing the client to present the work to the client in this tranquil environment while easily guiding them to the upper floor.

▲ Detail of the © atrium Wang Peng's design uses two "functional walls" as service spaces, seamlessly connecting the horizontal and vertical passages between the three areas. These areas are also strategically placed to manage and meet the majority of building M&E engineering needs, allowing for simple yet effective functional integration.

▲Private lounge © In order to pay tribute to the complex and delicate craftsmanship of teapot making, Wang Peng adopted a sculptural design language on the façade of the building, and the external terrace was carved into the building. While starting with the concept, this approach also injects natural life into the interior by increasing natural light and ventilation. The resulting architectural form evokes a sense of elegance and craftsmanship – and at the same time an apt tribute to the purpose of the building.
