On June 19, local time, the 53rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council opened in Geneva, Switzerland, and an annual report on human rights covering Afghanistan, Sudan and Eritrea was released on the first day of the meeting. According to the human rights rapporteur, a "reckless and senseless" war has erupted in Sudan, which has led to a human rights and humanitarian crisis that is unfolding at an alarming rate and devastating scale, and the Council decided to establish a human rights mechanism to monitor the situation in Sudan.

Chen Xu, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva, said in his speech that the Sudanese people are suffering immeasurably, but expressed disappointment that the Human Rights Council had established a country-specific mechanism without the consent of the Sudanese government. China calls on the Human Rights Council to support the role of the African Union and rely on regional mechanisms to resolve the Sudan issue.

The UN Human Rights Office called for an immediate cessation of fighting by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force and urged the international community to establish "people-to-people corridors" to allow all civilians to leave the conflict zone safely, with more than 2.1 million Sudanese currently fleeing their homes, 528,000 of whom have fled to other countries.
