Top 10 most popular sake in the world
In the past 20 years, the world wine and spirits sector has witnessed many incredible trends: from the rebirth of Bourbon to the transformation of tequila, from the rise of hard seltzer to the decline of Sherry, from the boom of natural wine to the revival of Irish whiskey. But none of this is quite the amazing growth of sake: truly rushing from Japan to the world market.
In 2021, Japan's sake exports reached $294 million, which is the 12th consecutive year that it has maintained its export growth momentum. Interestingly, however, according to one study, the domestic sake market in Japan has shrunk by 75% since the mid-70s.
According to Wine Searcher, the number of sake searches has surged in recent years, second only to tequila. Wine Finder recently gave the 10 most searched Japanese sake:
