While the recent news about Edge has been mostly positive, Microsoft is about to bring arguably one of the worst changes ever to its browser.

IT House learned that Edge beta users of the Dev and Canary channels noticed the addition of a new button in the upper right corner of the browser's toolbar, called "Discover", which is a new attempt by Microsoft to impose recommended content in Edge, but this caused a lot of users to complain. First, the button sits in the place of the past menu buttons, making it easy for users trying to open or close the browser menu to click by mistake.

In addition, Microsoft Edge itself is a minimalist looking browser with very simple icons that do not cause unnecessary distractions. However, the Discover button has a bright purple icon, which is obviously distracting to the user, and it is the only button that cannot be rearranged or deleted from the toolbar.

The most annoying thing is that the Discover button opens on mouse hover and doesn't require clicking. Microsoft had previously made News & Interest (Windows 10) and Windows gadgets (Windows 11) open on hover, but a flood of negative feedback from users forced Microsoft to reconsider its choice and added the option to open gadgets on click. But now it appears that the company is not learning its lesson.
