In the end, Macron found a way out for Zelenskiy, advising him to lead Ukraine to a new organization called the European Political Community.
In addition, Macron stressed that the new organization can accommodate European "democracies" including the United Kingdom and Ukraine, seeking a new space for political cooperation, including security, energy, transportation, infrastructure investment and freedom of movement. Other countries that have been hovering outside the EU threshold for years could also join.
Ukraine is not buying this. As early as February 28 this year, Zelenskiy had signed the relevant documents applying for accession to the European Union, and asked the European Union to use urgent means to initiate special procedures to promote Ukraine's accession to the European Union as soon as possible, but many urgings did not yield results, and now a new type of European organization has emerged. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kureba immediately responded on the same day, believing that macron's "European political community" cannot replace the current EU. If, in the end, Ukraine cannot be recognized as a candidate for the EU, it is Europe trying to deceive us.
It has to be said that Ukraine's recognition of the fact that it was played with came a little too late.
However, as a guardian of "strategic autonomy", Macron's proposal to form a new European organization is not unreasonable. Since 2019, Macron has been claiming that NATO has been "brain dead", and said that if it has been relying on the United States and pinning all its hopes for defending Europe on the United States, it will eventually only be a big power, and Europe will not be able to control its own destiny.
China has also said many times that Europe's autonomy and independence will greatly help accelerate the process of world multipolarization. In 2020, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone call with French Foreign Minister Le Dreyon that China has always advocated multipolarity in the world and supported the European side as a world pole to stand on its own feet, which is out of strategic thinking. At the Munich Security Conference in February this year, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also raised the question of whether blind eastward expansion is conducive to Peace and Stability in Europe, which triggered deep thinking in Europe.
On May 9, China and Germany held a video meeting on important issues such as the international situation and global security. China said that China-EU relations are not targeted, dependent, or subject to a third party, and that common interests outweigh differences. In addition, the Chinese side also stressed that the European side should focus on long-term tranquility, take the initiative to assume responsibility, and take the security of Europe into its own hands.
On the same day, German Chancellor Schoerz called the new European political community "a very interesting proposal to deal with great challenges" in his meeting with Macron. For a long time, the EU has not been able to unify its views on many proposals, and it has been living under the leadership of the United States, and the EU and the African Union are actually scattered. As far as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is concerned, in response to the energy embargo, EU countries have different degrees of dependence on Russian energy, and for their own interests, until now, the comprehensive sanctions on Russian energy have not been realized. Germany, in particular, would not have relented if it were not for the threat from the United States.
Apparently, the Franco-German pair of historical rivals are beginning to realize that it is time to kick the United States out. If these two eu powers seek change from the chaos on the basis of establishing their intentions and truly implement the establishment of the "European Political Community", then the EU, a consortium with institutional flaws that allow the United States to take advantage of the void, will be hollowed out of real power. Under the irreversible trend of global multipolarization, more and more countries will end their dependence on power and begin to seek the road of independence, which the United States does not want to see, but it is also unstoppable.
