Want to replicate the success of the phone on pc Can Honor do it?

Yesterday evening, Honor CEO Zhao Ming announced on Weibo that Honor will soon release Magic OS for Windows, "Honor will apply the successful experience of the mobile phone to the PC, and magic OS for Windows based on the underlying tuning of the notebook will soon meet with you."

This can be described as a stone stirring up thousands of waves, many netizens are interested in this, and very optimistic about the upcoming release of this technology of Glory.

In Weibo, Zhao Ming said: Through long-term technical accumulation, Glory has continued to improve in the adjustment and optimization ability of the underlying system. From GPU Turbo X, LINK Turbo X to OS Turbo X, we put Honor's phones at the forefront of performance experience. Now, Honor will apply the successful experience of the mobile phone to the PC, and the Magic OS for Windows based on the underlying tuning of the notebook will soon meet with you! Let the technology idealism shine into the PC and create your own magic OS new ecology! The possibilities are endless, so stay tuned!

It is not difficult to see from Zhao Ming's Weibo that Glory wants to replicate the success of mobile phones on laptops. It must be admitted that honor mobile phones are very successful. Behind this success is also inseparable from the deep tuning and optimization of software and hardware. A classic example is Honor's GPU Turbo technology, which was launched in 2018.

At that time, glory had not yet left Huawei, because Huawei's Kirin chip was slightly weaker in GPU performance. As a result, Honor greatly improved the instruction transmission efficiency between the CPU and the GPU through the underlying optimization, and finally made the Honor mobile phone greatly increase the game frame rate under the premise of almost no loss of game quality, and gpu Turbo technology was first launched on the Honor Play mobile phone. At the time, GPU Turbo was known for its intimidating technology.

The success on Android phones has undoubtedly given Honor a taste of sweetness, and now it wants to do the same in the PC field. While many applauded, ZAKER Technology believes that this time, Honor's success in replicating the GPU Turbo on its phones is not so easy.

The core difference is that Android itself is an open source system. The kernel code for Windows is not open source. This also means that Glory may not be able to modify and adjust the bottom layer of the Window system, so ZAKER Technology has reservations about zhao Ming's underlying adjustment based on the notebook.

If Honor can't modify the kernel code of Windows, then the practical significance of Magic OS for Windows may be very limited, because the kernel has largely determined the operating system's operational efficiency, and it is very difficult to greatly improve the efficiency of the system without modifying the kernel.

In addition, ZAKER Technology believes that the expression Magic OS for Windows itself is also controversial, because Windows itself is already an independent operating system, but Glory has added Magic OS in front of it, and the OS itself is also the meaning of the operating system (Operating System), which is somewhat confusing. Maybe it's more appropriate to call it Magic UI.

If Honor chooses to do secondary development on the Windows system, it is a bit of a snake feeling, because this will inevitably occupy additional hardware resources, but it may reduce the efficiency of system operation.

Many friends in the community have told ZAKER Technology that they feel that the official pure version of the Window system is the best and most stable, and they do not like the third-party OEM customization system. Some people also said that the first thing to buy a brand PC is to reinstall the pure version of the system.

In this case, how much value Honor's so-called Magic OS for Windows is a question of debate.

Of course, Glory obviously has its own considerations, after achieving good results in the mobile phone market, Glory has gradually begun to exert strength in the field of notebook computers in the past two years, Glory may hope that its own mobile phones can be more deeply integrated with laptops, breaking the barriers between Windows systems and Android systems, relying on Magic OS for Windows, to achieve multi-screen collaboration, one-touch connection, air transmission and other advanced features.

The best done in this regard is obviously Apple's MacBook and iPhone. But Apple's chips and MacOS and iOS are all developed by themselves, and this advantage glory obviously does not have. Looking back, the success of Honor's GPU Turbo was largely due to Huawei's own Kirin chip.

In the end, the underlying optimization and tuning itself is an extremely complex work, involving the kernel, source code and other core technologies, due to the Window system itself, the glory of the Magic OS for Windows may not be able to make a big difference, unless the glory can be like Huawei to launch a self-developed system on the PC side.

As far as the current situation is concerned, Magic OS for Windows is obviously not so easy to reproduce the "scary technology" of honor phones, and Honor's rich tuning experience on mobile phones may not be directly applicable to PCs.
