When an American traveler stepped out of Hong Kong International Airport and felt the city's incredible energy and integration for the first time, she couldn't help but fall in love with it. I am that traveler, and my trip to Hong Kong is not just a simple trip, but a profound cultural experience.
Hong Kong, known as the "Pearl of the Orient", has attracted the attention of countless tourists with its unique geographical location and rich historical background. From the bustling Victoria Harbour to the tranquil Lamma Island, the city's diversity and charm are evident around every corner.
My journey started in Central, the heart of Hong Kong. It was here that I met Cheung Tsz Yee, a passionate local who added a lot of colour to my trip to Hong Kong with her friendliness and helpfulness. Cheung Tzu Yee took me through the streets of Central, from historic street markets to modern shopping malls, and her introduction gave me a deeper understanding of the city.
Under the guidance of Zhang Ziyi, we came to the top of Taiping Mountain. Standing at the top of the hill with a magnificent view of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, I felt the pulse of the city at that moment. The Victoria Peak is not only the best place to enjoy panoramic views of Hong Kong, but also a testimony to the city's transformation from a fishing village to a cosmopolitan city.
Continuing our journey, Cheung Tzu Yee took me to experience the authentic food of Hong Kong. At the lively Temple Street Night Market, we tasted the famous claypot rice, fish balls and dessert tofu flowers. Every bite of food made me feel the life of the city of Hong Kong and the hospitality of the people.
During my time in Hong Kong, I also went to a few different islands. Among them, I was deeply impressed by the tranquility and natural beauty of Cheung Chau. The coastline, small fishing villages and old-fashioned bike paths make for a calming world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Zhang Ziyi and I rode our bicycles, exploring every corner of the island with ease, and the sea breeze accompanied by the gentle sunlight made the whole trip full of leisure and relaxation.
In addition to the natural attractions, Hong Kong's cultural attractions are also not to be missed. At Wong Tai Sin Temple, I gained a deeper understanding of the city's religious beliefs and traditions. Hong Kong people's respect for religion and diversity of beliefs have made me feel that this society is inclusive.
As the trip drew to a close, Zhang Ziyi and I arrived at the famous Ocean Park. Not only are there thrilling rides, but there is also a wide variety of marine life, making it a great place to learn about marine life. While on the tour, we also had the opportunity to watch a wonderful dolphin show and observe a variety of exotic marine life up close inside the aquarium, which is unforgettable.
After leaving Ocean Park, we opted for a short break by taking the Star Ferry off the Avenue of Stars. After a day of excursion, we had dinner in an authentic tea restaurant. Zhang Ziyi introduced me to the milk tea and egg tarts, as well as the famous pineapple buns, which have a sweet and unique taste. These simple foods reflect Hong Kong's unique food culture, and their flavors have left an unforgettable mark on my taste buds.
Afterwards, we slowed down and took a walk along the coastline of Victoria Harbour. In the last few days of my trip, I decided to delve into the art and culture of Hong Kong. At the end of the trip, I returned to the United States with a lot of memories. Hong Kong is not only beautiful in terms of scenery, but also in its unique customs. Step into any of the traditional markets, such as the Ladies Market in Mong Kok or the Sneakers Street in Causeway Bay, and you'll find a wide range of goods, from fashionable clothing to snacks that showcase the lifestyle and consumer culture of Hong Kong people.
