In the last 20 years, the reputation of indie games has actually changed quite amazingly!

For a long time, "indie games" were synonymous with "niche," "rough," "tricky," and "not making money."

Today, from Hades and Hollow Knight to Minecraft– indie games are not only sought after, but even sold for better prices than many traditional commercial games.

It should be noted that we did not make this H5 to compile the annals of history, nor did we intend to create the so-called "authoritative list". The excellent works, game people, and major industry events over the years are so vast that we can't carry all the important or shining things in the entire industry through this little H5.

What we really pursue is to comb through this information and give confidence to all developers who are struggling on the road - so that everyone can see that the industry they are engaged in has actually been growing and developing on a macro scale.

At the same time, I also hope to give all lonely strivers a kind of "companionship" across time and space - let everyone know that any shining industry celebrity is also an ordinary person with "temperature" like everyone else.

Reflections on the production of "Memorabilia" content

As shown in this H5, this "Indie Game Memorabilia" we cut from the three dimensions of "games", "game people" and "industry events", and extract the most distinctive parts of each plate as much as possible.

Among them, the "Games" section, we hope to include the most influential and recognizable works among players in the past decade or so. "Influence" is a more abstract and general concept - so we decided to further subdivide, starting from the dimensions of "independent expression", "word of mouth and business", "leading the design trend", etc., and listing the more typical masterpieces. In order to show the flourishing state of indie games today, it also lists the independent game masterpieces of each major game genre such as "action", "decryption" and "role playing".

The "Gamers" section is more focused on something with a temperature. Compared with the cold data of "XXX developed xxx" and sold XXX million copies a year", we hope to focus more on the character, personality, or shining point of the gamer. So we sorted out the information from several excellent qualities common to independent gamers such as "maverick", "perseverance", "intelligence", "easy-going", etc., and conveyed the "temperature" of this person in as short a sentence or two as possible.

The "Industry Events" section roughly sorts out some major nodes affecting the development of our independent game industry in chronological order, and classifies them from the three dimensions of "platform", "commercialization" and "ecological layout". After walking long enough on the beach, we felt the need to record the deepest footprints.

About this co-creation collaboration

Although we have no intention of compiling an "encyclopedia", making this H5 still requires a lot of knowledge and insight from different perspectives, and many people from different professional fields to work together. Therefore, we decided to discuss and cooperate with like-minded core players and practitioners in the industry through co-creation.

After the launch of the Co-Creation Partner Recruitment, the enthusiasm far exceeded our expectations. Within a few hours of the posting, hundreds of people joined us in the co-creation discussion, including game practitioners, entrepreneurs, college students, visual designers, animation effects artists, and a large number of hardcore players who love indie games...

In the co-creation process of H5, we were also impressed by the professionalism and sense of responsibility of our partners. Whether it's discussing problems together or collaborating on visual design, everyone is tireless, with beginnings and ends – sometimes meetings until late at night, sometimes repeatedly sorting out and sifting through cumbersome materials, sometimes sacrificing the weekend time that was originally rested to create... Hereby thank all the partners who participated in this co-creation cooperation! I hope that your love and passion can also be passed on to more people!
