On April 21, GAC Aeon announced the completion of its first super charging and swapping center in Guangzhou. It is understood that GAC Eian Charging and Replacing Center will focus on the "double carbon strategy" to create an energy supply ecology and battery recycling ecology integrating light, storage, charging and replacement, and provide automatic charging and replacement solutions in combination with unmanned driving technology.

It is worth noting that the charging and replacing solution created by GAC Aean is similar to the integration of optical storage and charging in the industry, which integrates photovoltaics, energy storage, charging, and power exchange.

To put it simply, the integration of optical storage and charging is a charging station that integrates photovoltaic power generation, electric energy storage and vehicle charging. For example, the solar roof system absorbs sunlight, converts solar energy into electricity, and stores the generated electricity in an energy storage battery, which can be accessed at any time, and the electric vehicle is charged through the charging equipment, and the electric vehicle uses a clean and environmentally friendly "green electricity".

On the issue of electric vehicle charging endurance, the integration of light storage and charging is considered by the industry to be an ideal solution to solve the rapid charging of electric vehicles. On November 2, 2020, the General Office of the State Council issued the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)", which clearly proposed to encourage the construction of "light storage, charging and discharging" multi-functional integrated stations.

At present, a number of integrated charging stations for light storage and charging have been built in China, and the light storage and charging charging piles in Jiangsu, Hainan, Shanghai, Beijing, Shandong and other places have been put into operation. Among them, due to the abundant illumination in Tibet, as early as July 2017, a number of optical storage and charging integrated power stations built by HKUST Intelligent have been officially put into operation in Lhasa.

"(Guangzhou Super Charging and Replacing Center) Relying solely on photovoltaic energy storage, like the current area is not enough, but we can also use (buy) the clean energy of the grid to do energy storage, after the storage is finished, the next day to charge the car." Gu Huinan, general manager of GAC Aean, said.

It is worth mentioning that the optical storage and charging integrated charging station can also use the retired battery of electric vehicles in the battery energy storage link, that is to say, the electric energy generated by photovoltaic power generation is stored in the decommissioned battery and used for electric vehicle charging, which realizes the cascade utilization of electric vehicle batteries.

In addition to the decommissioned battery as an energy storage battery, the "active" battery of electric vehicles can also be used as an energy storage battery in the charging station by replacing the power. This also means that the energy storage system in the light storage and charging station has also become one of the important devices for vehicle power exchange. At present, GAC Aeon is accelerating the launch of power replacement models. Gu Huinan revealed that GAC Aean will release a new generation of pure electric exclusive platform AEP 3.0 at the Beijing Auto Show, when all cars can be quickly charged and quickly replaced.

In fact, before GAC E'an, the State Grid signed a contract with BAIC to jointly build and operate a "three-in-one" energy service station for power exchange, charging and energy storage, and jointly explored "green electricity trading" to promote the application of orderly charging and V2G technology to achieve effective interaction between vehicles and the power grid.

Some analysts said that the rich "grid interaction" method can reduce the difficulty of commercial profitability of "optical storage, charging and replacement integrated station" and improve the economic benefits of the site. In addition to realizing vehicle energy supply, this mode can also be applied to other scenarios, such as home energy storage, which can achieve "clean emission reduction" of household electricity.

Gu Huinan believes that as far as the integration of light storage and charging is concerned, the charging and replacing link is only a carrier, the most important thing is to strengthen the construction of the scene, attract more car owners to go, bring more business model possibilities, and let the entire ecosystem operate.

However, due to the high construction cost of optical storage and charging integration and the difficulty of commercial profitability, the current landing projects are mainly pilot projects invested by energy companies, vehicle enterprises and battery companies under policy support, such as the "optical storage and charging" integration demonstration project in the service area of the State Grid; the "optical storage and charging" integrated supercharging station landed by Tesla in the Shanghai Wisdom Bay Science and Technology Innovation Park; and the "light storage charging and inspection" demonstration station put into operation by Kuaibu New Energy, which holds 49% of the shares of Ningde Times, in Shanghai.

It is understood that as of April 21, GAC Aean has participated in the construction of the super charging and replacement center with China Southern Power Grid, PetroChina, Guangzhou Chengtou, Huawei, China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, Juwan Technology Research and other enterprises. At present, the charging and replacing center has realized photovoltaic power generation and intelligent energy storage.

At the same time, in March, GAC Group and GAC Aean also jointly invested 4.96 billion yuan to establish GAC Energy Ecological Technology Co., Ltd. to realize the integration of "light storage and charging" and further promote the development and application of "vehicle-station-network" collaborative interaction of intelligent charging and replacement service technology and products.

According to the plan, on the basis of the existing vehicle and pile mass production and overcharge technology, GAC Aean will promote the construction of overcharge and fast replacement networks, and will set up 220 super charging and replacement centers in Guangzhou this year to achieve 3km radius coverage; in 2025, it will expand to 1,000 to achieve 1.5km radius coverage.
