The Apple iPhone 13 has been the best-selling in recent years

IT House, April 22 (9to5 Mac) reported that a new report from consumer intelligence research partner CIRP shows that the iPhone 13 series is delivering "some of the best results in many quarters," though the two mini versions launched to date still account for only 3 percent of all sales in the second quarter of 2022.

Josh Lowitz, cirp partner and co-founder, said the new iPhone 13 model accounts for the lion's share we've seen in many quarters. Four models, including the iPhone 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max and 13 mini, accounted for nearly three-quarters of sales in the March quarter. This time last year, the new iPhone 12 series accounted for 61 percent of sales. Also in the quarter, the iPhone 13 had the highest share of a single model, at 38 percent. Post-pandemic buyers flocked to Apple's latest phones, though they were only slightly improved over previous models. The share of the iPhone mini continues to be low, with the 12 mini and 13 mini each accounting for only 3% of sales. ”

The report's main findings show that the iPhone 13's share of individual models is the highest in several years, reaching 38%, while the iPhone mini model attracts only a small share of buyers — only 3% in total. In addition, buyers now keep their old phones for less time, reversing the long-term trend.

Older models are also continually attracting sales growth. The two-year-old iPhone 11, iPhone SE 2020 and three-year-old iPhone XR accounted for 15% of sales in the quarter.

"As the market shifts to unsubsidized phone sales on installment contracts, the era of older phones is also climbing as users prefer to use their pay phones. This trend has reversed recently, perhaps because of the increasing choice of trade-in, high-value phones," said Mike Levin, cirp partner and co-founder.

In the second quarter of 2022, 20% of buyers reported that their old phones were used for three years or more, compared to 34% in the second quarter of 2021. It's also important to note that the iPhone 13 lineup brings decent improvements compared to its predecessor, such as smaller bangs, a stronger camera, 5G, and battery life improvements.

Another key factor may be the rumor that the regular standard iPhone 14 model will remain similar to the current iPhone 13 — that is, using the same A15 processor — influencing customers' decisions about whether to buy a new iPhone now or wait for a successor.
