Diving! The Samsung S22 series depreciated almost three times the iPhone 13 series

On May 10, SellCell's research report showed that the depreciation of Samsung's Galaxy S22 series smartphones in the first two months after its launch was almost three times that of the iPhone 13 series.

In February this year, Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S22 series, which is nearly five months after Apple launched the iPhone 13 series. However, just two months after its launch, the overall value of the Galaxy S22 product line shrank to 46.8%. Another tech giant, Google's Pixel 6 model, didn't fare much better, falling 41.5 percent in value two months after its launch. In contrast, the iPhone 13 series, which lost only 16.8% of its value two months after its launch, is still the most valuable model at present. However, the Galaxy S22 is still different from the Pixel, the Galaxy S22 is the only smartphone series that continues to depreciate, and there is no value recovery after the launch.

From the specific version, the 128GB Samsung Galaxy S22+ 5G performed the worst in terms of retention rate, losing 53.8% of its value by the second month, and the 128GB Pixel 6 Pro lost 44.2% of its value. On the other hand, the worst-performing iPhone model was the 128GB iPhone 13 mini, which was down 29.2 percent by the second month — and even then it was generally better than some Android models.

The best performing Samsung model was the 128GB Samsung Galaxy S22Ultra 5G, which lost "only" 41.7% in the two months of launch, and the 128GB Pixel 6 maintained a 33.1% depreciation rate. The best performing iPhone model is the 128GB iPhone 13 Pro Max, which lost only 3.8% of its value during this time, giving users peace of mind.

SellCell's findings suggest that Android phones still have a long way to go in terms of long-term value preservation compared to the iPhone. Many Android users also expressed concern about the depreciation of the first model, under such a high depreciation rate, "who will dare to buy the first launch in the future."
