As part of the plan, Nissan has announced a prototype of a solid-state battery production device, which is expected to be mass-produced and enter the market in 2028.
In its medium- and long-term plan for 2030, which was announced last year, Nissan plans to launch a pure electric model equipped with solid-state batteries in 2028. The first step to achieving this goal will require Nissan to complete trial production at its Yokohama plant by 2024. The prototype of the solid-state battery production equipment will be studied for materials, designs and production processes, and Nissan believes that solid-state batteries can reduce the cost of batteries to $75 per kWh (about 480 yuan) by 2028, and even reach the level of $65 (about 414 yuan). This will make the manufacturing cost of new energy vehicles comparable to that of fuel vehicles, thereby reducing the price and further bringing stronger market competitiveness.
In terms of the current development trend, although lithium batteries still have room for development, but the progress is limited, and solid-state batteries are most expected to change the current situation of the industry. After all, solid-state batteries have great advantages, such as energy density is about 2 times higher than lithium-ion batteries, excellent charge and discharge performance, and can greatly shorten the charging time. In addition, solid-state batteries use less precious metals, which, in addition to being more environmentally friendly, can also significantly reduce the cost.
Nissan is one of the earliest brands to enter the electric vehicle market, and before the rise of Tesla, its Leaf pure electric car was also in a leading position in the market.
