Allergies start from prevention, Nestlé joined hands with many parties to launch a "defense war" for baby health

Spring is coming, and the "allergy problem" that makes the parents very headache is coming again, and they have to start a "defense war" for the baby's allergies. According to the survey of allergy epidemiology, it was found that 40.9% of children exposed themselves to allergic symptoms, and 12.3% of children aged 0-2 years were diagnosed with allergic diseases.

In the face of the growing threat of allergies, parents need systematic allergy knowledge, and systematic science popularization has become a necessity.

On April 8th, Nestlé, together with Zhihu and Cui Yutao Parenting Center, launched an online press conference on "Scientific Early Defense and Peace of Mind Allergy Season" to help parents establish a scientific anti-allergy concept, so that parents can understand the importance of allergy prevention and how to scientifically raise and care for babies with high risk of allergies.

Cross-border strong and powerful: a joint call for scientific prevention of allergies

Spring is a critical period for the baby's growth and development, and it is also a good time for parents to take their babies out and contact new things. While enjoying the sun, your baby may have repeated coughs, sneezing, runny nose, small rashes and other allergies.

However, when the baby has these allergies, parents do not understand it, and even 80.4% of parents are still avoidant in their mentality, expecting that the allergy problem can disappear on their own. Noting the parents' negligence in the field of allergy prevention, Nestlé joined hands with Zhihu and Cui Yutao Parenting Center to share their efforts and actions for babies with high risk of allergies at this press conference.

As a domestic head Q&A platform, Zhihu found that many parents are concerned about: "What are the causes of baby allergies?" "How should babies with allergies be fed?" "How can a mother of an allergic baby adjust her mindset?" and other issues. It was also found that the baby's allergy problem affected the nerves of the whole family, and even destroyed the harmony of the family, at the same time, many mothers felt anxious and blamed themselves, and their mental health was affected.

After learning about this situation, Zhihu interviewed and communicated with 2581 parents, and joined hands with a number of experts and excellent respondents to launch the "Sensitive Questions Have Answers" multi-hole report. This report not only cuts to the focus of parents' attention, but also condenses the wisdom of industry experts and excellent respondents, providing professional, constructive and authoritative advice for babies and parents who are suffering from allergies.

Mr. Cui Yutao, the person in charge of Cui Yutao's parenting center and a well-known parenting expert, said: "At present, the understanding of maternal and infant families in mainland China about the causes of baby allergies and allergy symptoms is still relatively vague. The proportion of parents who bring their babies to the doctor every spring due to allergies is as high as 60%. ”

In order to help parents scientifically prevent infant allergies, Cui Yutao Parenting Center conducted a survey of 2073 bao moms, and analyzed the results of the survey into the "2022 Infant Anti-Allergy Cognitive Survey".

This survey shows that many parents still have misunderstandings about the prevention of baby allergies. At the same time, 62.9% of parents said that after the baby has allergy symptoms, they will consider using partial hydrolyzed formula powder, and there is a huge gap between parents' cognition and actual operation. And "96 percent felt it was necessary to prevent allergies, but 25.6 percent were unsure whether they could be prevented."

Allergy triggers revealed: macromolecular milk protein is one of the triggers

In daily feeding, baby food allergies are the most common, including eggs, seafood, milk and dairy products, etc., in the food that may cause allergies, in the survey, 94.3% of the mothers choose seafood, and 81.3% of the mothers choose milk and milk products.

But nearly 50% of these mothers do not understand that the macromolecular milk protein in dairy products is one of the key factors that trigger babies' allergies.

In fact, the "macromolecular milk protein" in ordinary formula has become a common situation that triggers allergies in Chinese babies. This is because the baby's intestines are relatively fragile, the intestinal flora has not been fully established, the digestive system is incomplete, the protein cannot be fully digested and absorbed after entering the body, and the undigested protein breaks through the intestinal mucosal barrier, which is easy to induce the baby's allergy problem.

Mr. Cui Yutao said: "In order to keep the baby away from allergies and grow up healthily, if the baby really needs to add formula powder within 6 months of age, it is recommended to start by adding partial hydrolyzed formula powder to minimize the chance of milk protein allergy problems."

However, at present, after a baby has an allergy, only 8% of parents know that they can choose a formula that can help improve allergies. Among parents who use partially hydrolyzed formula for the first time, 30% no longer eat it within six months of use.

In this regard, Mr. Cui Yutao said that part of the hydrolyzed formula powder is through the pHF (partial hydrolysis process) in the milk in the large molecule protein cut into small molecule protein, thereby helping the baby reduce the risk of allergies, and will not cause nutrient loss, long-term use can improve the baby's allergy situation, parents pay attention to choose the formula powder suitable for the baby's current age group.

Strong scientific strength: Nestlé offers a complete feeding solution

Nestlé has been engaged in early infant nutrition since its inception. In 1867, Henry Nestlé developed a nutritionally balanced "milk wheat flour" that saved the life of a premature baby who could not breastfeed. Today, Henry Nestlé's science-based innovations continue to shape and drive nestlé.

Nestlé Mother & Baby has been committed to developing science-based products and services to provide high-quality, science-based nutrition products for Chinese babies. In 2011, Nestlé China Co., Ltd. launched the "Ming Study", which was jointly completed by Peking University, Nestlé R&D Center and Nestlé Academy of Nutritional Sciences, which is a comprehensive survey around the early life stage, China's leading large-scale maternal and infant nutrition investigation and research project.

To reduce the risk of allergies at the source, in 1987 Nestlé introduced the world's first partially hydrolyzed whey protein (pHF-W) formula, which contains small molecular weight milk protein. The German Infant Nutrition Intervention Study (GINI), a large government-funded study on the prevention of allergic diseases in children, showed that pHF-W reduced the risk of developing Natelor dermatitis in infants by 1 year of age by 50%.

In addition, Nestlé offers allergy babies a complete nutritional solution from treatment to conversion, as well as allergy prevention. For babies diagnosed with milk macromolecular protein allergy, Nestlé Health Science's AAA formula and deep hydrolyzed amino acid formula provide dietary avoidance treatment for milk protein allergy. At the same time, when the child needs to slowly transition back to a normal diet, part of the hydrolyzed formula can be used as a solution to help babies with allergy prevention, helping babies to prevent allergies in the allergy season is very important for the baby's health, and scientific research data also confirms that part of the hydrolyzed formula can reduce the risk of allergies.

In order to better serve the new generation of young mothers, Nestlé has cooperated with many parties to carry out strategic cooperation to provide professional knowledge services for allergy-related content, help mothers reduce parenting anxiety and escort the healthy growth of Chinese babies.
