Tesla recalled more than 120,000 Model 3s

Yesterday, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement announcing that Tesla will recall some imported and domestic Model 3 electric vehicles with production dates from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022 from April 7, 2022, with a total of 127785 vehicles (including 34,207 imported Model 3 cars and 93,578 domestic Model 3 vehicles).

According to the announcement, the reason for this recall is that "there may be minor manufacturing differences in the power semiconductor components of the rear motor inverter of the vehicle", which may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally. "This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state and causes the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard."

Tesla will upgrade the motor control software for free through the OTA remote upgrade to the vehicle within the scope of the recall, and for the vehicle that cannot be recalled through the OTA, the relevant users will be contacted through the service center to upgrade the motor control software for the vehicle to closely monitor the rear motor inverter of the vehicle, and timely replace the rear inverter with related failures for free to eliminate safety hazards.

At the same time, the announcement also reminded affected users that "before the vehicle recalls the upgrade software, the vehicle should be driven cautiously, and the Tesla service center should be contacted for maintenance as soon as possible after the recall begins."

It is understood that the recall was carried out in the case of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration launching a defect investigation, which should be a response to the Tesla high-speed stall and nest fault exposed by some users before.
