"Contending for a Seat" is also known as "Book of Shooting with Guo Servants", which is one of the representative works of Yan Zhenqing's xingshu, and together with the "Manuscript of sacrifice to nephews" and "manuscripts of sacrifice uncles", it is collectively known as the "Three Drafts of the Plains", which occupies an important position in the history of books. The draft letter was written in November of the second year of Emperor Guangde of the Tang Dynasty (764 AD), when Yan Zhenqing was 56 years old and six years after the book "Sacrifice of Nephew Manuscripts", just when his calligraphy art was in full swing.

The original traces of the "Scramble for Seats" have been lost, and the carved stone is stored in the Forest of Steles in Xi'an. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Chang'an Shiwen carved the stone with the authentic mold (this book is called "Xi'an Ben"), because of the exquisite engraving and the loss of authenticity, the good deeds are based on the book to reverse the engraving, and there are as many as 12 kinds of imitation carvings, so the texts passed down from generation to generation are the most important. Nowadays, the Northern Song Dynasty Tuoben is no longer passed down, and the Southern Song Dynasty Tuoben is also as rare as a star phoenix. Among them, the Northern Song Dynasty Tuoben in the Collection of the National Library, the Collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing, and the Southern Song Tuoben in the Shanghai Library are more famous.
