Eyes opened! Yan Zhenqing's early calligraphy is on public display today

The Shaanxi Archaeological Museum opened to the public on April 28, and more than 90% of the precious cultural relics were met with the public for the first time. For the first time, the museum exhibits the only tombstone of Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy in the country, and there are only three cases of Yan Zhenqing's early calligraphy.

In the summer of 2020, the Xianyang City Archaeological Team of Qindu of the Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute carried out archaeological excavations on more than 100 Han and Tang tombs found in the government reserve land of Qinhan New Town in Shaanxi Province. During the excavation of the tomb of the Yuan family in the Tang Dynasty, an epitaph written by Yan Zhenqing was unearthed, and the inscription in the epitaph was Yan Zhenqing's early calligraphy, which was written by him at the age of 38.

On the morning of November 13, 2020, the Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute released the epitaph of Yan Zhenqing's book excavated from the first archaeological excavation, which is of great significance for the study of Yan Zhenqing himself and the calligraphy art of the middle ages of the mainland.

It is understood that in the excavated tombs of the Yuan family in the Tang Dynasty, the epitaph of Luo Wanshun, the wife of Yuan Daqian, was written by Yan Zhenqing, and Yan Zhenqing in Wennei signed himself as a lieutenant of Chang'an County. Luo Wanshun died in April of the fifth year of Tianbao (746 AD) and was buried with her husband in March of the sixth year of Tianbao (747 AD).

According to Yan Zhenqing's chronology, Tianbao's five-year Yan Zhenqing was promoted from a lieutenant of Liquan County to a lieutenant of Chang'an County, which coincided with Shi Zai. Judging from this epitaph, compared with the plump and majestic period of Yan Zhenqing's representative period, the knot body is broad and magnificent, and the 38-year-old Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy style is less majestic, but more thin and elegant.
