Hua Shikui (1863-1942), zi bichen, ancestral home of Wuxi, Jiangsu, lived in Tianjin. Hua Shikui came from an old salt merchant family and began to receive an initial education at the age of four.

Insisting on practicing words every day, his father was very strict, and occasionally saw a little slackness, so he took a cigarette bag pot and knocked it on his head. In order to correct the posture of the pen, his father ingeniously placed a copper coin on his pen shaft, and as long as the pen shaft was slightly tilted, the copper coin would fall down.

It is said that Hua Zhi could put ten copper coins on the pen shaft later, and he could still move the pen freely, which showed the depth of his skill. Hua Shikui studied hard and practiced diligently, and finally formed his calligraphy patriarchal Yan Zhenqing, next to and all kinds of bodies, and the style of writing was rounded and condensed. The calligraphy works are as small as the fly head and as large as the list books above the diameter of the ruler, and the structure is very dignified and relaxed, and it is more vigorous and upright in the later years. It ranks first among the four major calligraphers in modern Tianjin.
