On April 2, the exhibition "Double Stars Shine in China - The Revolutionary Road of The People's Musicians Nie Er and Xian Xinghai" was opened at the Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Guangzhou. This exhibition is specially planned to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Nie Er's birth and the 117th anniversary of Xian Xinghai's birth, using red music resources, through about 160 physical objects or audio-visual materials such as photos and text historical materials, to review the revolutionary road of these two people's musicians, and to show the revolutionary deeds of Nie Er and Xian Xinghai from democrats to staunch communist fighters.

Review the growth path of the "double star" revolution

Turning over the history of modern Chinese music, a series of sparkling names shine before our eyes. Among this group of brilliant musicians, there are two particularly dazzling superstars, that is, the pioneers of proletarian revolutionary music and the musicians of the people, Nie Er and Xian Xinghai.

People's Daily published the national anthem "March of the Volunteer Army" on September 29, 1949

In 1935, Nie Er's "March of the Volunteer Army" expressed the strong resentment and resistance spirit of the Chinese people against imperialist aggression with a high and agitated melody, embodying the heroic spirit of the great Chinese nation of bravery, strength, and unity in the face of foreign insults, and later became the national anthem of the People's Republic of China. The exhibition features vinyl records of the National Anthem of the People's Republic of China, released by the China Recording Society in 1982, and the score of the National Anthem of the People's Daily, March of the Volunteers, published on September 29, 1949.

In 1939, Xian Xinghai's masterpiece "The Yellow River Chorus" was magnificent and powerful, taking the Yellow River, the birthplace of the Chinese nation, as the background, and enthusiastically praised the victorious belief of the sons and daughters of China who are indomitable and defend the motherland, which has a great influence at home and abroad and has been sung to this day. The exhibition exhibits the oil painting "Yellow River Chorus" collected by the Panyu Museum.

With their hard work and great works, these two musicians have practiced the original intention and mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. In 2009, Nie Er and Xian Xinghai were named "100 Heroic And Exemplary Figures who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Founding of New China".

The exhibition will tour 20 museums

The exhibition is guided by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province (Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage), the Bureau of Culture and Tourism of Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, co-sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Museum (Guangzhou Lu Xun Memorial Hall), the Yuxi Museum and the Panyu Museum, and hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Mobile Museum. The organizers said that Nie Er and Xian Xinghai are the banners of China's left-wing music movement, and the exhibition uses red music resources to tell the story of the party, the story of the revolution, and the story of heroes, build a distinctive revolutionary traditional education, patriotic education, and ideological and moral education base for young people, and guide young people to establish red ideals, build a solid red foundation, and carry red memories from an early age, which is also the main significance of this exhibition.

The exhibition will be on view until 30 May 2022. After the exhibition is completed at the Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, it will also be exhibited in 20 museums in Guangdong Province, including the Yuxi City Museum in Yunnan Province, the Xinjiang Corps Military Reclamation Museum, and the Yuexiu District Museum in Guangzhou, the Dongyuan County Museum, the Maoming Dianbai District Museum, the Luoding City Museum, the Jieyang City Museum, and the Yangchun City Museum.
