Hemudu Ruins, located in the northeast of Hemudu Village, Yuyao, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, with a total area of 40,000 square meters, is the site of a matriarchal society in the early New Age era in southern China.
The hemudu site, stacked with four cultural layers, has been determined by experts to date at least 7,000 years ago.
In July 1973, the Yuyao Red Star Brigade accepted the task of basic engineering of the drainage station. Shortly after the start of construction, some team members found some pottery fragments when digging, and at first they thought that the villagers had discarded them, so they did not care.
As the depth of excavation grew, more and more objects appeared, attracting everyone's attention.
It is reported that at that time, it was the period of archaeological fever, and some people doubted whether this underground would be an ancient tomb or something else, so it was reported to the relevant departments step by step.
After receiving the news, the archaeology staff came here at the first time, and after many studies, this ancient cultural site that shocked the world was published!
Through two scientific excavations in 1973 and 1977, the Hemudu site unearthed nearly 7,000 cultural relics such as production tools, daily necessities, decorative crafts, artificially cultivated rice relics, dry column building components, animal and plant remains, etc., which fully reflected the prosperity of the matrilineal clan period of the primitive society of the mainland.
Its excavations have provided extremely valuable physical evidence for the study of oriental civilizations such as agriculture, architecture, textiles, and art at that time, and can be regarded as one of the most important archaeological discoveries since the founding of the mainland.
The cultural relics excavated at the Hemudu site have been exhibited abroad many times, which has deeply shaken the whole world.

Hemudu Ruins Scenic Area is divided into three major areas, namely museums, site displays and primitive ecological areas. Here, you can watch the traces of 7,000 years ago, admire the years hidden in the depths of the forest, and feel the tranquility of the Yao River on both sides of the river.

The museum is the first attraction to enter the Hemudu scenic spot, which is divided into three sub-blocks: the first exhibition area introduces the Hemudu people, displaying their skulls and daily necessities; the second exhibition area introduces the rice farming economy of the Hemudu people; and the third exhibition area introduces the living conditions of the Hemudu people.
