The current use of hydrogen energy mainly includes fuel cells and hydrogen internal combustion engines. Fuel cells have the advantages of high efficiency and zero emission, but their technical difficulties and high costs make them strongly dependent on the construction of supporting systems. The hydrogen internal combustion engine retains the main structure and system of the traditional internal combustion engine, which can use industrial by-product hydrogen, and is expected to achieve thermal efficiency similar to that of fuel cells by optimizing the combustion system and supercharging system, and has a significant advantage of low cost. Therefore, the hydrogen internal combustion engine is an important technical direction to promote the upgrading and transformation of various application fields of traditional internal combustion engines and help carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

The New Technology Development Department of Geely Automobile Group Power Research Institute began to plan the independent development of hydrogen internal combustion engines very early, set up a professional group to study the key core technology theories of hydrogen internal combustion engine development, and combined with the experience of efficient combustion research to design and develop hydrogen engines. The project team overcame the problems of tempering, early combustion and knocking, oil emulsification, and insufficient enthalpy of the supercharger, and provided a basis for the design and development of the combustion system of the hydrogen engine through the simulation and test test of the hydrogen nozzle unit. At present, the peak effective thermal efficiency of Geely hydrogen engine has been increased to more than 44%, creating the highest record for thermal efficiency of hydrogen engines in China.

As one of the pioneers of the industry's hydrogen internal combustion engine, Geely Automobile Group Power Research Institute was invited to participate in the carbon neutrality, methanol hydrogen energy and new energy power theme technology exchange held in Guangzhou, and for the first time, Geely's latest hydrogen fuel engine research results were made public.
