Duan Linju (1937-2009) was a native of Xindi, Shanxi. A first-class actor and a famous opera performance artist, he began to study art in 1950 and entered the Shaanxi Provincial Academy of Opera in 1955, dabbling in Qin cavity, Meido, bowl cavity, classical opera and modern drama. The main repertoire of performances includes more than 50 plays, such as "Butcher Zhuangyuan", "Liu Qiao'er", "Famen Temple", "Qu Yuan", "Spring and Autumn Match", "Bai Yudian", "Jin Wanchao", "Love and Hate", "Erhu Shou Chang'an", "Two Bells" and so on. Together with Li Yingzhen, Ma Lanyu and Li Ruifang, he was known as the "Four Famous Dans" of the Shaanxi Provincial Opera Research Institute.

"Soldiers, farmers, industrialists, and merchants are all average, and no one is involved in fame and fortune." These are the two lyrics of Nangong Shang in the traditional play "Jin Wanchao". Duan Linju was originally the main actor of the Shaanxi Provincial Opera Research Institute at the beginning, and singing Qin Lu was her specialty. In August 1959, in order to present gifts and tour performances for the tenth anniversary of the National Day, Shaanxi Province set up an opera performance troupe to Beijing, and Duan Linju was transferred to the third troupe of the theater to play the boudoir Dan Shang Feiqiong in the bowl cavity "White Jade". This was originally a normal change in the decision of the organization, of course, it also provided an opportunity for Duan Linju's fame, which may be a good thing for individuals, but it also brought potential trouble, and even suffered a lot of grievances. Fortunately, she has a calm mentality, self-knowledge, although she is in the main actor position, she does not show her sharp edge, is more rational in case of trouble, and tries her best to avoid artificial contradictions. Sometimes, she plays a role that others don't want to play; and the right role she likes is given to others. In 1981, when she was scheduled to play "Thousands of Households", which reflected the self-livelihood of unemployed young people, the regiment originally planned to play the role of female number one, but there were several repetitions in the middle, and finally she accepted a two-way role. According to the old saying in the opera industry, this is called "the back of the knife". However, Duan Linju was able to take into account the overall situation, treat it correctly, and deal with it calmly, ensuring the smooth progress of the rehearsal. It is not easy to do this.
