#Light Weapons Science ##America #Eight photos, looking back at how the US military "sea bee" has run all over the world in the past 30 years! After the end of the Cold War, naval mobile construction battalions ("sea bees") dedicated to naval base construction continued to serve on new fronts around the world, and the U.S. Navy was always present everywhere they went, even as far away as Diego Garcia, the Caribbean, and Antarctica. During Operation Desert Shield, Captain Mel Hamm of the Fleet Hospital Operations and Training Command (left) and Lieutenant Vic Moder of The Hospital 22 of the Hospital Of Reserve Naval Construction Battalion discuss hospital construction. Picture II is in a bombed-out church in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, in February 1996. Figure 3 shows soldiers from a naval mobile construction battalion in Afghanistan departing for California on February 28, 2011. Figure IV shows female soldiers from a naval mobile construction battalion pouring concrete into a primary school construction project in Djibouti in 2011. Figure 5 is on April 27, 2016, during a field training exercise, Hunter Ligett, a soldier in the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion, informs the M240 machine gun shooter of the enemy's location. Figure 6 is on-site training at Shelby Camp on August 20, 2018. Picture VII shows Second Lieutenant Frank Sko of the Naval Maneuver Construction Battalion in a mud-filled trench at the Jungle Warfare Training Center in Okinawa, Japan, on January 12, 2016. Figure VIII is the unique "Sea Bee" badge, which has been awarded to qualified naval construction unit members since 1993, and consists of a Thompson submachine gun, a Springfield M1903 rifle, and a machete, all of which were weapons often carried by construction engineers during World War II.
