Jia Baoyu was hit twice in a row by the Purple Crane, and his mental breakdown was rooted in the marriage between Lin Daiyu and Bao Dai. It was Jia Baoyu's illness. He also said to Lin Daiyu that day:

Jia Baoyu was "very sick", and when he was struggling, Lao Zhu's mother appeared and "drove" him to the peach blossom. And she "dug up bamboo shoots to repair poles" to eradicate Lin Daiyu's "future", Lin Daiyu died, then Jia Baoyu went to "heart disease" and married Xue Baochao.
In summary, the mother-in-law who manages the bamboo in Daguanyuan is called "Old Zhu Ma", and Cao Xueqin clearly borrows several layers of meaning from "Zhu", alluding to the fact that Bao Dai's marriage has no future. The three of them are destined to "die and marry". But don't forget that Jia Baoyu was then "crazy" because of Daiyu, and it was also a tragedy to be doomed to a good marriage between Jin Andu.
Therefore, the old Zhu mother's surname is "Zhu", not a random name. Cao Xueqin also used her mind.
