Walking into the gate of Shanghai Qingpu Pinghe Bilingual School, 13 buildings of different shapes come into view. Book Theater looks at it from different angles, like a blue whale and like a giant ship, inspiring people's imagination and curiosity. Functionally, the library and the theater are creatively combined, and the various spaces of the library are wedged into them like building blocks, and the spaces of different heights are connected by the stepped reading room, which looks hierarchical and staggered.
Walking into the library, you can see that at the very core is a circular open-shelf reading room, the skylight at the top of which allows natural light to be softly sprinkled in, providing students with a quiet and intimate reading atmosphere. There is a huge drum-shaped skylight in the center of the reading room, which introduces plenty of light to illuminate the shared reading area. The pitched roof creates more outdoor gardens and small reading spaces, allowing reading to take place freely in all corners of the building.
A long strip of skylights on the roof of the gymnasium gives the space natural light, allowing students to bask in the sun for a variety of indoor activities. The north and south facades of the swimming pool are double-layered curtain wall systems with tension film and sun panels, and their translucent materials provide more soft natural light for the interior. The swimming pool is 25 meters by 16 meters, and there are five 25 meters swimming lanes, which can carry daily training and small events.
Coming back to the Art Center, the building is shaped like an irregularly cut black gem, which houses a performing arts classroom, a visual arts classroom and an exhibition space, and the basic tones of black, white and gray are both elegant and provide a good neutral display background for the rich creations of future teachers and students. Children of different ages walk into the school and have different artistic feelings.
